Can someone explain how the bra measuring method everyone on here raves about works?

Seen a few thread titles alluding to it but could some please explain exactly how to measure yourself? Desperately need new bras but usually guess my sizes.

follow this measuring advice

post your measurements and we'll tell you what size to try as a starting point.

Sorry hijacking thread a little bit. I measured myself as a 37 round and then 44 bending over. Am I right in thinking I would be a 36G or 38F? Thanks in advance

try 36FF, 36F, 38F and 38E.

Ooo. I have a question for statisticallychallenged if she would be so kind.....? Is the method exactly the same for nursing bras?

DS is a week old and the idea of getting to Bravissimo with him and two year old DD is just laughable but the bras I wore with DD are simply too loose round the band and too small in the cup so I'd like to order online.

I have a hideous monoboob at the moment.

I didn't even have the good grace to apologise for the hijack Blush

Marking place for when I can be bothered to actually measure!

Yup, the method is the same however with non wired bras you won't get the same lift, and you'll never get the central gore to tack!

It depends on your size but a lot of the ladies on here are going for underwires - either the Anita underwired (watch the sizing as they skip double letter so you need to go up!) or ewa michalak, or just using proper bras and converting them using little kits bought on ebay. It is fine to wear wires when feeding as long as you ensure that the fit of the wire is very good and it doesn't rest on breast tissue

Shock so according to this I'm not a 38dd, I'm a 34gg!

No wonder all my bras are so ill-fitting! To be fair, I've not been professionally fitted, I just look at what's on the sale rack and try on whatever looks about my size very scientific

Looking forward to some posh bra shopping next week now!

Yes, I think I will go for Anita. It took me a few months to discover them last time by which point I was smaller so the ones I have won't fit.

Thank you!

Just being a bit dense but do you measure your under bust whilst bending over, too? Or just the breast bending over?

Hi I've tried this and I'm coming up 31 and 37. Are you supposed to pull the bust measurement in tight (so squish your boobs under the tape) or let them hang free iyswim?

Report
MadBusLady · 13/03/2014 21:33

Let them hang free and swing in slight breezes! You will probably need to try a couple of different cup sizes anyway, but you don't want them squished.

Only the over bust measurement needs to be taken bending over.
