How to dress if you have big boobs?

cithkadston · 11/03/2014 17:09

I'm about 5ft4, a size 10 but have size 32G boobs. I've never had small boobs but after having 3 children they've got bigger and bigger and I've ended up as a G cup.

As a size 10 I'm slim everywhere else but I feel that my boobs make me look quite big at times. If I wear a dress I generally need a size or two bigger than I am, which then looks big on my shoulders and also makes me look bigger around my tummy area. I've looked at Pepperberry dresses and although I have a couple of tops from there I'm not keen on their dresses as they're always a bit long for me and I'd feel frumpy in them.

Has anyone got any suggestions/pointers about the best way to dress to look slimmer and to make it obvious that it's just big boobs rather than being big all over lol? Thanks :)

How about wearing a fitted shirt done up under the boobs with a cami underneath. Would that suit your style type?

I am taller with biggish boobs and smaller shoulders. I have similar problems and have to shop around.

Watching with interest. I tend to wear V necks with a nice cami underneath. Asos always have good dresses but I struggle too!

I generally buy tops that are v necked or scoop necked, . look for tops that have a seam running under bust , think this is empire line style, as this will then give you shape. I never wear tops that are baggy and don't define the waist as then it looks like you are just fat and not shapely. avoid large prints on top, dresses often look more slimming than a top and skirt. I am a 32 dd or e and dress size 8 ,and have found boden top, tunics, t shirts and dresses fit me well even in the petite range, their material has a good stretch and is quite thick so it hangs well.

Wear retro/vintage style stuff. They are generally made to fit hourglass figures so will be smaller on the waist but with stretch to accomodate a bust. I recommend Lady vintage,Collectif,Vivien of holloway and Lindybop.

you need stretch. Cowl necks are nice, make boobs a bit less in-your-face. I have a lot of this type of dresses and tops:

Have ordered from BiuBiu and also from here: dd-atelier.com
Happy with both, certainly less frumpy than Pepperberry.

yes it is tricky. I am 8- 10 and boobs have got bigger in my 40s. I have slim shoulders.

I agree about boden and scoop necks.

I think those shirts which have a round mandarin collar and a v with buttons are very unflattering.

always a v-neck here. I find a scoop always looks like I have another big round thing on my chest.... Hmm
Halternecks are very flattering for the summer

Marking my place as the OP has more or less the same measurements as me.

I've got broad shoulders and big boobs. Things still always look to big on my shoulders, and as for round the hips. they look stupid, big gaps at the side.

My boobs are 2 dress sizes bigger than the rest of me. I'm a 14 with size 18 boobs. Sometimes this becomes a size 20. I actually think clothes have got smaller round the chest lately. I'm finding it harder and harder to get tops that fit

I'm size 8 with F cup boobs and tend to wear a lot of tailored styles which nip in at the waist to emphasise it. I find I do this a lot, make the most of any slimmest bits to emphasise curves. Fitted over floaty.

I can't do a cowl or polo neck like some here though. I go for a lot of strapless styles in the summer / evenings out as I have toned arms and shoulders. I never buy a bigger size than I need as it can make you look bigger. So long as the material sits nicely and isn't straining at the bust, I will always buy the smaller size .

I'm also small framed with big boobs. Well fitting moulded t shirt bra that made them look northward made a bit difference. My boobs still look big but the sit at a less droppy height.
I try on masses of tops, slash necks, cowl necks, deep crew necks, patterns and cuts, nothing shiny....I probably try on 20 tops before I buy one, if I'm lucky. No bulk in knitwear. Sometimes jewellery can create the v shape neck or a scarf. It takes effort...unfortunately.

There was a brilliant thread on this not long ago, have a search, almost identical title I think, there were loads of great links on there. Can't link as on phone.
Are you sure you are a 32 if you are a size 10? Have a look for the bra intervention threads. Most size 12 and below are a 26/28/30 back. I am a 12 and a 30 back. The right band size will make a difference to how you 'carry' them IYSWIM

After a recent shopping trip, I have to say that this season is not great for us. All shops full of short, boxy or massive and floaty numbers, that would look horrible on anyone with boobs and waist.

I'm a 32F, I think, and a size 10 on the bottom but have to wear a 12 or a 14 on top (though my hips are quite slim compared to my waist, too).

Can anyone advise on the datelier sizing? How does it compare to Bravissimo? I find that if I go for my actual measurements in Bravissimo it is quite large so I size down.

I'm 30 E but I can go up to 32dd. some times I now wear a 10 top , used to wear 8 but am narrow across the shoulders and ribcage.

I didn't get the datelier sizing either but the stuff looked nice and used natural fabrics.m The bustier range was way too expensive

They have the sizing table the other way around and cm instead of inch in the bottom table as well, but otherwise I found it accurate (have just ordered a couple of shirts though, so don't know about the hip measurement).
dd-atelier.com/Size-guide.html
Ignore the first column for now, start from the right. For example, if your waist is 26 inches and bust is 36, you would buy size 70F.
