Hi all. I've lurked all over MN for many years now, (esp fond of Style & Beauty) and need to ask for some help.
In my youth I was really into lovely clothes etc, but after 2 weddings, 2dc, 2dsc, full time work for the last 30 yrs etc, etc, blah blah, I have fallen way behind in the sartorial stakes. Gave up make up years ago & am also now size 20/22 (5ft 6 in).
The fab news is that I have at last met 'the one', and after 7 yrs we are having a v small wedding in June. I haven't been even thinking about what I'm going to wear ( had even considered my jeans & top as probably fine) but my darling DD fixed me with a baleful stare yesterday & said words to the effect of 'Not a chance, Mum'
So, over to the collective wisdom of MN Style & Beauty..
What should I wear?
Provisos: not a Wedding Dress, Must have sleeves, must reach my calves at least & absolutely not over £150.
Seriously I do have major issues with my size etc, but have decided to be realistic rather than hope I will be size 14 by June.
Be kind., Thanks.xxx

Well,do you want a dress / skirt / trousers?

Anything else re the big day eg will you be walking on grass or gravel a lot?

White or another colour? What suits you?

(Congrats by the way)

That long white dress was beautiful! Sadly, their XXL equates to a UK 16 so not big enough - but lovely!
It's a Register Office so just hard flooring I expect.
Don't really mind on colour. Had them done years ago, and I was Autumn (if people still do 'Colour Me Beautiful'?!)
Thanks so much already.xx

RonaldMcDonald the Donna Morgan dress is lovely. Can you explain about the size for me?
Tethersend I love that one too!! I knew you guys were the ones to ask. I have spent some time looking at the Asos site just because I've not looked at it properly before - some good stuff that might even get me out of my jeans at work!
I'm going to share all of your ideas with DD so she can assist. Keep them coming (if that's ok?). Xx

American sizes are the same as ours but smaller by two. So you are an 18 there

What about anything here

US size 12 is a UK 16, so I think a UK 20 would be a US 16.

Again, beautiful dresses ladies - so many to consider. I genuinely have no idea where I would have found such lovely things without your help. I love the black maxi Tethersend. I do just wonder what it would look like on someone "curvier" (aka lumpy..!)
I'm off to my bed now and I look forward to getting back to the thread tomorrow. Thanks again .xxx
