I bought a big tub and when I brought it home, its hard, like a rock. Stupid question alert but how do people use that as an emollient, hair conditioner etc? I can see me eating or cooking with it but feck all else!

As soon as you scoop a blob with your fingers, it will instantly start to melt in your hand.
Rub your hands together and splurge on hair or body.

I scrape it with the back of my fingernail. One or two sweeps of my finger harvests about 1/4 - 1/2 cc, which is generally enough for my whole face. I melt it by rubbing it between my palms.

ong way that I would never use up a whole jar before it went off. So I decant a couple of spoonfuls into a little tub for the bathroom, and keep the jar in the fridge.

If it's that hard, it sounds to me like there's something wrong. As other posters have said, you should be able to scrape some off quite easily.

Blitz it for 20 seconds in the microwave. T will soften.

If you've only just walked into the house with it then it probably is very hard because its coooold outside. Tomorrow it will still be firm, but much softer. Melts at about 20C, I think.

Best not to nuke it, as that will negate some of the benefits of using cold-pressed VCO.

I buy it in a Glass bottle and pop it in a bowl of hot water or the bath to soften.

(hit send too soon) but i have certainly had to take nail scissors to coconut oil in winter before. How cold is the room? Just pop it on a radiator for a bit.
