Need curly hair help before 3.30pm!

I'm taking dd to get her hair cut this afternoon it's long overdue she's not had it trimmed since last sept!!

It's all the same length half way down her back but the curl is weighing it.down and it looks limp and lifeless, I've tried to google pics of haircuts for fine curly haired kids but nothing but short haired bobs is coming up!

She doesn't want it short (she doesn't want it cut at all) and it still needs to be tied back for swimming,dancing etc
So what do I ask for?
I'm not very confident with hairdressers as I've had a few dodgy haircuts in the past (layers far to short)

And will it being much shorter be the only way to bring the curl back?

A trim should bring the curl back. Have you looked at the curly girl method? You don't have to go the whole hog (ie. no shampoo) but using more conditioner and stopping brushing her hair will make a big difference.

Also you could look on the forum boards of British Curlies forum. There's a thread on there about curly kids.

You can just ask them to tidy it up if she wants it to be easy to tie back etc, or layers will get more curl in again as the top layer is shoter and less wieghed down. (fine wavy hair here).

Make sure they are use to cutting curly hair and the concept that when cut it will be curlier so shorter, also as it drys it will get shorter. If they don't seem confident go to to a different hairdresser unless she s the kind of kid that can shrug off a bad cut.

I'd go for a trim with some long layers to give it a bit more life but if the hairdresser knows what they are doing you won't need to tell them that.
