Cream for very dry patches on babies face

Hello,

My son has very dry patches on his cheeks, they feel rough to the touch and look crepey. I don't think it's eczema, it's not red and he isn't scratching. What can I use on it, any miracle cures?

I've been using l'occitane mum and baby cream as I happened to have some to hand but I don't think it's rich enough. I want something quite plain and non-irritating but rich. Would something like weleda skin food or Lucas pawpaw ointment be ok? Or maybe a pure Shea butter, coconut oil etc.

I know things like aqueous cream aren't recommended if it is eczema and was also just reading olive oil wasn't good.

Epaderm ointment does the trick for my kids. I get in on prescription (they have eczema as well as just dry patches) but I bought it over the counter in Boots once, years ago.

Maybe check its not ringworm, as this can sometimes look like a dry patch initially and is fairly common but won't respond to moisturising.

I used lanolin on my newborn as its safe if they eat it, mine would rub his face and suck his thumb. It's pretty good if a little expensive.

Silcocks base.

Ds had cradle cap in his eyebrows and on to his face. I didnt now that was possible so I though it was just dry skin. Anyway the pediatrician recommended using silcocks base on it and also adding it to the bath water. It worked well. I've been using it as a hand cream ever since

Weleda weather cream is ace! I think it's calendula. Or Aveeno.

We had this and the paediatrician told us to use Emulsifying Ointment - it worked brilliantly.

I don't rate Aveeno although plenty do but La Roche Posay Ciclaplast Baume B5 is amazing & specifically states it is suitable for babies.

I get diprobase on prescription for dd as she gets similar patches.

For a baby, I'd ask a pharmacist. Used to get diprobase for my DD on prescription.

I think it probably is infant eczema, OP. DS has those patches and when they flare up they become red and itchy.

Best stuff for him is Body Shop Hemp face cream. Works a treat.

We like waitrose baby bum cream - basically 'set' olive oil with a bit of vanilla in it. Edible and natural

DS (12 weeks) has this, GP said it was sebhorrie dermatitis, basically the same as cradle cap but on his face. We're using E45, which seems to be working well.
