This space is for anyone who wants to talk about perfumes - ask for recommendations, tell us which scent you are wearing today (=SOTD), list your favorites...

Just to kick off, wearing Bergamote by The Different Company today.
Which scent have you chosen today?

Hello. I've been lurking but haven't posted on the fragrance thread before. My SOTD is Diptyque's Ofresia. Lovely, distinctive & seems to last most of the day.

FrugalFashionista · 20/02/2014 08:02

Welcome Housewife! Ofresia is great!

Wearing the last drops of Vega by Guerlain today. If I finish a sample, it means I really love something. This is great - everything that Chanel No. 5 EDP is plus a bit more. If you feel No. 5 has become thin and pale and sterile after its most recent reformulation and never understood why Marilyn Monroe would wear something that smells like hand soap to bed, this has a bit of raunch and earthiness and va-va-voom feel.

Good Morning ( well it is morning here). We are finally sort of settling into life on the other side of the world. It's wild and windy today but I think SOTD is Florence by Tocca. It's a bit more in your face that what I would usually wear but I really like it. I figure on such a windy day the rest of the world will be safe. I guess now that I am in North America I can start to peruse sites like Surrender to Chance

Just checking into new thread. I am wearing Geurlain insolence EDP today, an absolute parma violet bombshell.

You know walterwhiteswife I really wanted to like tommy girl, just liked the bottle (such a sucker for a nice bottle I am) but it just wasn't great on me.

I actually own coco and don't like it at all. Anyone wants a half bottle let me know!

Today I wore my new m&s la rose! Lovely green rose, really like it but was totally gone by lunch. I hardly remembered to enjoy it. Must bring it to work I think so I can suffocate my colleagues spray all day Grin

wilting i would love the half bottle of coco! It's my favourite but I just can't afford it right now Sad I'm not sure if I have anything special to swap it for as everything I have is pretty commercial Sad

May I join? I'm wearing osmanthus by roger and gallet (from m&s) today. It's citrusy and flowery and light. My new favourite scent. In fact, I was in m&s today and was pondering on fragonard's ike d'amour, but I also recently smelled tocca's stella and I just can't decide which I prefer. I may love them both Grin

I am sad that I have just finished my sample of Creed Virgin Island Water. Why is it always the pricey ones I like best?

I read on an old thread about The Perfumed Court. FrugalFashionista, is this where you recommend we should get samples from? Is there anywhere else? I've bought so many full size bottles this year & am lusting after so many more, so samples would be a good idea.

PS My SOTD is Diptyque's Tam Dao - I went overboard on Diptyque in the Space NK sale, but I love it all!

Report
wiltingfast · 20/02/2014 21:54

Ooo, pm me and tell me what you have! I'm sure we'll find something Grin and if not you can have it anyway 'cause I feel bad not using it at all...

Surrender to Chance is spinoff of The Perfumed Court. Both are in the US. Basically, a couple of friends who loved perfume started an online business together (they posted from different physical locations) and then had a falling out. TPC had a period of not fulfilling orders very fast so I started favoring STC. But have always received everything from both and really love them.

Sources of samples in the UK - Les Senteurs, Scent and Sensibility, occasionally Escentual (for Etat Libre d'Orange mainly).

In Europe - Parfümeria Neroli in Hungary and Alla Violetta in Italy and many others. (First in Fragrance used to be great but they seem more reluctant to sell samples now.) Most niche perfume houses sell samples directly from their sites.

Place Vendome Haute Parfumerie in Belgium is also a cult favorite, they don't have an e-boutique, but if you buy a full bottle from them over e-mail using a bank transfer, you will not regret it Wink

Oh and welcome all, fantastic 'fumes, and a special wave to Pocket!

Wearing Défilé New York, a delicious green gourmand (think creme eggs on astroturf Wink). I always seem to remember this during the fashion weeks, it's a lovely special edition from Histoires de Parfums and one of my spring favorites. They have a great sampling program, can recommend.

Thank you. I'll have a look at Surrender to Chance & the others. How long do they take to arrive? Perfumed Court have a lot of the scents I'm interested in but haven't been able to test. - Lab1 Rose 31, Byredo Gypsy Water, Chanel Beige & Jersey, Martin Maison Margiela Lazy Sunday Morning & yet more Diptyque. I've become addicted to Fragrantica & have to update my scent timeline regularly. It's only in the last year that I've got really interested in niche perfumes & this thread has been partly to blame!

BTW Thanks again for the Surrender to Chance tip. I'm very tempted by this surrendertochance.com/niche-perfume-beginner-sample-set-10-best-niche-perfumes-for-a-beginner/. It has Rose 31 & I have a couple of Serge Lutens and fancy trying more. What do you think of this set?

Apatite1 · 21/02/2014 00:08

I think that's a great set, good variety. Mind you, be prepared to shell out £££ some of those on the list are quite expensive for a full bottle.

I'm going to be in kiehls vanilla and cedar wood. Goodnight!

God I used to wear Dune endlessly! Can't remember what it was like now, must go and have a sniff.

sotd Guerlain Vol de Nuit. Found a sample on the floor this morning. From Surrender to Chance actually, can second the recommendation housewife though postage is a bit expensive.

Sleet and howling winds here, but in spite of the weather SOTD = Creed's Irisia. Green, woody, dry chyre-floral. Not long-lasting on me, but very lovely.

Sorry have been too distracted to pay attention to all the lovely stuff you are wearing. Dune, Vol de Nuit, Miss Dior - you are hand-picking the pearls Wink And love the sound of your Creed Flora - haven't tried that one.
Apatite Kiehl's perfumes are relatively unknown but great - I sometimes wear their Musk.
Housewife the sampler sounds great and has two of my FB faves (LADDM and Avignon) but niche perfumery has such a lot of styles that you'd need a box of 100 to get a representative sample. (Be warned! Wink) I became interested in niche because the mainstream selection at my local Sephora was a bit samey and because my favorite families (green and oriental) were underrepresented in the sea of fruity florals and gourmand lites...

SOTD Aedes de Venustas, loving the delicious rhubarb note...

I can never work Dune out, I expect it to be all summery and beachy and suntanlotiony, but it isn't . It's lovely, must try it again.
