I know I'm a bit late to the party but I got an off the peg designer dress from

It's based in Reading, Berkshire, not sure whereabouts your friend is? But they have dresses from £250 right up to £1000.

The lady who owns the shop is so lovely and they have quite a mixture of sizes to try too. Hope your friend finds something nice smile

Oxfam are renowned for their bridal stock, it's all on line and there are shops dotted around the uk. If nothing else you might get some cheap accessories?

Your friend sounds like she'll look a lovely bride.
If you have time to plough through all the ads which you have to do one by one, look on Rock My Wedding at the preloved dresses on private sale, not all have been worn before, some are samples and some are spare when brides have chosen a different dress after purchase.

Here's the link

There's also this place with three different outlets
never been there, so it's not a personal recommendation but it looks worth a try maybe?

I've got a brand new , never worn, Ian Stuart wedding dress that I'm happy to let go for less than £500!

Have you looked at J Crew?
Also worth looking at Net-A-Porter or The Outnet for unusual dresses?

I have a maggie sottero in a size 6-12 that im thinking about selling if any good! Corset back. Glass beads and understated swarvoski crystal detailing ( not tacky at all...I dont like bling) classic a-line style but can also be worn with underakirts or hoop to make a fuller style smile

absentmindeddooooodles Tue 18-Feb-14 16:33:02

Please excuse my face!!! And the state of the front room ( was decorating at the time) dress alao has a train that can be hooked up for dancing smile
