Longchamp Le Pliage or Vanessa Bruno Cabas?

I'm starting work soon and will need a strong sturdy bag to carry a large A4 ring binder type folder and some papers and was wondering whether the above bags are strong enough. I would also like to use the bag for holidays to carry around dc stuff. In the past for work I have used Orla Kiely Tesco jute bags but now I fancy something a bit smarter. Which would you buy? I know they are priced differently and am fine with that.

Oooh, I am toying with the idea of buying a Le Pliage myself (the medium tote with shoulder-length straps), and was wondering about the strength thing, so will wait to see what people say.

Le pliage everytime Smile

I have both - the Pliage is more practical purely because the lining is rubberised and the handle longer. The Grand Cabas fits over my shoulder but is more of a snug fit and it does show dirt for than the Pliage. It is prettier though.

Le Pliage definitely. Have used for it for work, college , holidays and it's always just right.

On strength, my Pliages have carried very heavy books, papers, laptops, etc and come through unscathed .

I would go for le pliage with the longer handles so you can get it over your shoulder.

I love mine, its my workhorse bag. It's predominately my workhorse bag and I throw all sorts into it including A4 files and my lunch. I've had it about 4 years and it is still looking good.

I think you need both Smile.

We have both in our family and they are useful bags for all sorts of things.

The Pliage is great and always looks v stylish.
Vanessa Bruno one is a bit OAP by the seaside (nowt wrong with that but probably not one you want to channel in work mode)

Thank you for your replies Smile seems as if Le Pliage is the one. Is the large one too big, the one that retails for around £68.00 or could I get away with the medium sized one? I don't want it to swamp me but it needs to carry my work stuff.

I'm also thinking of buying a Pliage- where is the best place to buy?

I think know you'd need the £68 one. The one for £56-ish is more handbag-sized and an A4 file would be a squash, I think (can you tell I was inspecting them closely in JL last week? Grin ).

I have both and if you need to put things like A4 paper and stuff go for the large. In fact I rarely use the medium just as teh large is so practical and eeven if empty is so light I don't mind carrying it around anyway

Also John Lewis says
Sorry - this product isn't currently sold onlineOur shops sell a wider range of products than we're able to keep online, and may stock what you're looking for.

They normally have them on stands in the travel section

I have a Le Pliage. I had this bought for me in 2007 by dh. I have used this bag on and off since then, and am using it now as we speak. It has lasted that long Shock that's quality for you.

I really want another one in a different colour, like burgundy, but don't know if it's an in season colour.

Btw, I have the handbag sized one, and can fit my iPad in it, with purse, diary x2, phone, make up, small family...

fififolle you can buy them online from Selfridges and Harrrods. You can even order one directly from Lonchamp and custom it to your liking. It add £££ to the cost and is £££ for p&p. Hmm now which colour to have boring black or go with most things taupe? For an everyday bag I suppose neutral is best.

House of Fraser- here it is on the Longchamp site, but it's more corally in real life.

My DDs have had Le Pliage for school and they didn't stand up well to everyday carting of books and folders - both ended up with rips.

The VB canvas cabas has fared better, surprisingly. It's very very thick, like tent canvas. Totally impractical for the amount of rain we've had, but there we are!
