How do I curl my hair?

I've always had long poker straight hair, I don't blow dry it but its dyed every 3 months at the hairdressers. At the moment its my usual bra strap length & its fine but silky & glossy. I also have a side fringe. The condition has never been a problem because I only use hairspray, I tend to wear in side buns & messy buns & messy ponytails usually & I like low maintenance styles.

I'm having it cut to a shoulder length next week (inspired by the recent cuts on here) & this will be the shortest its ever been!

I've never been able to have curly hair before as the length just pulled the curls out but I'm hoping that with shorter hair I can. I'm thinking full on big bouncy curls, waves & tousles :)

I already have mousse, hairspray, some unused heated rollers in the attic (ion ones I think) & a hairdryer that's 20 years old

I like the look of the styling wands that are around now but last time I asked the hairdresser about them she pulled a face & talked about singeing the hair. I've also seen a youtube clip where a girl was doing a curl tutorial, was talking while she held her hair in one of the wand things & when she tried to release the hair it fell to the floor & was completely burnt off!

Its unbelievably daunting when the last time your hair was curled successfully was with your mother's 1980's snappy tongs that always gave you straight ends to the curl :)

Please give me a description of how you curls yours :)

I have a very costly gadget called the babylis pro perfect curl. it;s foolproof and fun to use google it and watch the tutorial on you tube

Procurl is brilliant, well worth the money.
I also use my straighteners to curl mine - half turn on hair then straighten like you to with curling ribbon and scissors!

I've just googled the procurl & that's the one I asked my hairdresser about! She said she had used it in the salon & in her opinion it got too hot & that was when she talked about singeing.

Is it Ok on your hair?
