tell me your secrets! (the cheap ones)

One day I want to be a fairytale princess whose only beauty routine I'd the occasional bathe in stream water scattered with rose petals but until then...
I have started to do the oil cleansing thing which is looking promising, so what else should I be trying (which is cheap and natural)?

Sleep Grin

Even just 5 mins of star jumps / crunches / hoovering gets the blood pumping around you and brightens your skin up. Even doing squats or bottom clenches whilst stirring soup adds up

Moisturise moisturise moisturise. Before you go to bed, after a shower, after you wash your hands.... As far as I'm concerned it's not so much about what you put on, expense wise, as opposed to actually putting some form of cream/oil on you

(Boring) lots of water

Stop buying expensive lotions and potions for your hair and stick to just a shampoo, conditioner and a good natural brush. No dryers or straighteners. Your hair will be like a waterfall of silk Smile

Lol if I didn't dry my hair it would still be damp at end of day!

Learn where to spend and where not to. Anything I leave on (like moisturisers ) I spend on. Anything I wash off - cleanser, shampoo - I don't

SPF if the most important thing of all

I should move around more, my circulation is rubbish.
My hair is elbow length and wavy so I don't do much to it anyway.
What's a good "slap it on" moisturiser?

I use Olay's basic fluid, it's got an SPF in it and does what it's meant to- moisturise my face. And it's affordable. Not sure how mice I believe in all the fancy schmancy anti-wrinkle in 36 hours with added tears of fairies creams

Linky

Though I do use a Rosehip oil at night sparingly when I feel like my skin needs a bit of TLC

Agree with always moisturising but don't agree you have to spend a fortune. Years ago Aldi moisturiser came out on top of tests, above expensive ones, I gave it a go and have never looked back.

Oh, and as an older person... Boring as it sounds, get into habit of using hand cream

Aldi creams are AMAZING!

Rosehip oil is lovely.

Coconut oil is fab for oils pulling, hair conditioner, face, make up remover, body oil.

Agree re moisturising\oils
I took part in water trials re skin and it makes a huge difference although hard to stick to I was on dialysis and on non dialysis days when skin had more water in it I always looked amazing (but felt shitty) and people commented which was weird when feeling so sick.
Really defined brows and lashes a shade or 2 darker than your hair

Another one who uses oil as a moisturiser and cleanser - and I get them from the grocery counter which is cheaper still! I didn't originally do it to save money but because my skin had become really sensitive and every cream I tried made it flare up. Now I use either almond, coconut or sometimes wheatgerm oil. My skin looks better than it has for years and I am ancient.

What's a reverse sock bun?
Think I'm going to have to trial a few different oils as they get so much praise for everything. What's the best one for hair? And does coconut oil actually smell like coconut?

Oh yes Smile Like you say, I would just try a few - to be honest I don't really notice much difference between them which is why I alternate.

I should add that I don't use oil during the day if I'm wearing make up as it leaves my face a bit shiny. But it's great at night.

Best longterm advice is stay out of the sun.

Meanwhile, eat well and find a moisturiser that works for you. I've got this far on Simple and I'm still fairly wrinkle free in my late 50s.

I have used moisturiser since I was 15, and always meticulously cleaned my face at night. At 55 I can pass for 10 years younger, so maybe what I was doing was right.

I have a facial brush which I use to exfoliate my skin with my normal cleanser. It means I don't have to buy a separate exfoliate.

ALWAYS wear sunglasses when you're out and about.

Sudocrem as primer really does work.

Bodicea · 07/02/2014 18:23

I second the sunglasses tip. I drive in them pretty much all the time all year round.have prescription ones now hat get more use than normal glasses. and live in hat and sunasses on hols and have no fine lines or crows feet at all at 31 xxx
Also find an eye cream with SPF - v few do. Dermalogica have one - total something or other x

Green tea, even the flavoured ones. More interesting than plain water and full of anti oxidants which are good for you. Can be drunk both hot and cold once it's brewed

If I used shampoo on my hair and brushed it, my hair would be more like a bush of Brillo pads than a waterfall of silk! Grin I agree with the not using dryers and straighteners though.

So, my cheap secrets for curly hair are wash with a cheap conditioner, slap more conditioner on, use Boots Pink Curl Creme and some gel, allow to dry naturally.

I never wear less than SPF15 on my face. Still covered in freckles but I'd dread to think what I'd look like without.

someone on S&B yesterday said they'd read French women don't use conditioner on their hair.
I am always trying stuff on my very fine curly/ frizzy hair, so today I washed it, combed through(no conditioner) stuck in the Velcro rollers.

it looks flipping good! don't understand how/why.

This is pretty much true. There was a food programme not so long ago where they tested the whole "drink loads of water" thing. The proof was it didn't make a load of difference and the bloke said after, "So just drink water when you're thirsty, basically"

Yes to coconut oil, Aldi and sun cream. You don't need to spend a lot.
Clairol Nice n Easy root touch up kit - with a little brush - is fantastic. Easy and good color, and looks like highlights rather than a block of color.
