I feel your pain, op. Wrinkles really don't bother me but my age spots (and jowls) - yikes! I am not an expert but I think it's basically just, well age, although getting them before you're 40 does seem a bit unlucky. The main cause, I believe is exposure to sun which is why you get them mainly on your face and hands. So avoiding the sun/using sunscreen might help slow them down.

As for treating them, lemon juice is recommended (I think that might be the vitamin C) and also Bio oil, although others say that's a waste of time. I think ultimately you'd be in the land of chemical peels and dermabrasion which basically sound like sandpapering your face until you reach a layer that's blemish-free. I'm not sure whether they then grow back.

Exfoliation
Some sort of chemical peel depending on how brave you are ( and beware these, can leave scarring if not v carefully applied)
Lancôme dreamtone is good but £££
Hat & Factor 50 sunscreen forever after

Hi,
I got a free sample recently of estee lauder primer which is used under moisturiser and fades age spots. Mine have definitely faded since I have been using it.

There's an episode of Sex in the City where Samantha has a chemical peel. It doesn't end well Grin Definitely not for me.

Glycolic acid peel or night treatment cream. Have a hunt on this board for the sizzle thread. There is really nothing to be scared of.

A few IPL sessions would get rid of them. And SPF 50 daily to keep them away.

Posted too soon. Any peeling treatment, like the glycolic peels suggested above. And you should not look like Samantha after a glycolic peel! She had a poor dermatologist. But you would need a few sessions of whichever.
Retin A is very good too but bleddy hard to tolerate.

birthday what was it called?

Hi
Sorry for not replying earlier, it's called Idealist even skintone illuminator. It is probably pricey, not had to buy any yet as I am still using the free sample I got - only need to use a little so will last ages. Would be worth going to see if you can get a sample from counter to try before buying. I would definitely recommend it.

Oh great, thanks birthday. I think I used that when I was 20 and had nothing like age spots! I remember the whole range being brilliant but couldn't afford to replace. I may treat myself.

There's a product called Eucerin Spot Corrector that's just won an award: www.iheartbeauty.net/2014/01/product-of-year-awards-2014.html
However, I didn't get on that well with it but that could be just be me as the clinical data is good.
Here's another beauty blogger's post about a Philosophy product she's had success with www.amodelrecommends.com/2013/07/03/philosophy-miracle-worker-dark-spot-corrector-review/

I tried that eucerin thing alex and it made my eyes water just opening the tube. God knows what's in it. The creams in that range are great though.

Clarins Vital Light serum is good for that IMO.

IPL is the way forward I think. I had a mole removed last year that has grown over the last 2 yrs (GP sent me to hospital to check it wasn't cancerous first) and they shaved it off. Initially the surgeon looked at me and said "oh is it that one?" It wasn't. On the way out he said, "if you want to do something about that one, you can see my friend X down the corridor, a few IPL sessions and it will be gone!". I asked at reception and they quoted £250 for 2 sessions which was all they thought it would need.
Possibly doesn't help you without seeing it - it's only about the size of a baby fingernail and I can cover it with concealer, but it's right on my forehead so pretty noticeable. I may see to it later in the year Smile

How awful! I hope you returned it for a refund. I can't remember it being stinky but I was a bit annoyed that I spent time (which is in short supply) applying it as directed but didn't notice any improvement.
