How small a bag can I get away with?

Off to London for a show and night in a hotel with DP this weekend. I want to take a minimal amount of luggage with me as plan on spending the day in London the next day and will have checked out of the hotel by then.
So I want to be able to dress up a bit to go out in the evening so will need a change of clothes and shoes, toilet bag and normal handbag stuff. Am I being realisic to think that I can fit it all in to an oversized shoulder bag?

I don't think that it's unrealistic, depending on the shoes as heels take up more space than flats. Also I'd go through your handbag and take out all the stuff in there which isn't necessary for this trip - mine is always bursting with junk anyway! And could your DP have some stuff in a man bag too?

Thanks, I am planning on taking heels, so will have a good clear out of everything else. I have no idea what sort of bag DP will be taking ( but most probably a small rucksack), we don't live together and are meeting up there.

You can usually leave bags n your hotel even after you've checked out - would that be an option?

And find out what toiletries they provide, perhaps you won't need to take your own. Or if you do, get pound shop things and leave them there.
