Skin tags

Not sure if this is the right thread but I have 3 skin tags on my neck which I would really like to get rid off. Too squeamish to do it myself and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. I'm in the London area. Many Thanks

Go to the doctors

Destination Skin (many London branches) zapped mine for me. I think it was called Advanced Electrolysis. Very successful and worthwhile if you do a load in one go. I have also done a DIY job with a nail clippers but I realise you may not share my sense of derring do ;)

My GP zapped one of mine. She sprayed it with some stuff (excuse the technical term) and it kind of withered away and dropped off Grin

I have skin tags as well, someone told me they appear during pregancy. Not sure if true or not. Can you remove them yourself, what I read was that they can bleed a lot if you cut /rip them off

If you tie a piece of cotton very tightly around them they will drop off. Apparently.

Doctor may either burn it like a wart or use a bit of cotton string to tie round it, I had one in between my thigh and groin and last year in Egypt it became a bit sore and was catching on my pants I put a plaster on it to stop the irritation and it fell off itself, but you won't want plasters on your neck Wink

My GP just cut it off with a scalpel in the surgery, no local anaesthetic or anything. It was ok actually. He pointed out that the prick of a needle would hurt more and he was right.

I removed a couple with the tied cotton technique. Didn't hurt and they fell of in days, no scaring. I can understand not wanting to go do all DIY though.

My mum told me if you cover them in Vaseline they fall off. I did not believe it..but put Vaseline on two before I went to bed for two nights they fell off on the second morning! Amazing so easy!

Thanks very much for all the replies. GP has told me they won't do it on the NHS. Destination Skin look really good, thanks sergeant. May pluck up courage to try cotton technique though!

I did the cotton technique, I try to get them when tiny and whip them straight off

The cotton technique is much easier if you can find a friend to do it. Not only can they see what they are doing better but they don't hesitate at the last minute and you need it to be tight !

Vaseline is easier than tying cotton on yourself and honestly they just shrivel up and fall off!

chocolatespiders · 20/01/2014 20:32

I put clear nail varnish on one and it dropped off after a few weeks

I'm going to buy some Vaseline... but I'm curious, Vaseline... cotton wool, is this about smothering them? I don't get how tis works!

Definitely going to try the Vaseline thing. Sounds a lot less daunting than strangling them with cotton!

I was the same I really didn't believe my mum but it worked so quickly! I just put a reasonable layer over the skin tag overnight.

I think it works because the skin on skin tag can't breathe as pores are blocked? But it worked.

I just cut two off on the weekend with sterilised nail scissors! One was on my leg high up towards bikini line and hardly hurt at all but bled a little. Another one on my boob which didn't hurt or bleed at all.

I remember when I had my C-section them sniping the skin tags down below that had grown in pregnancy and then when I was reading some notes it is normal procedure to snip any tags downstairs as part of cleaning up after C-section!

Skimming wonder if that's why mine fell off on holiday it was covered in oily cream??

Report
chocolatespiders · 20/01/2014 21:18

Friend got rid of a wart by covering it in duct tape- maybe that will work Smile

Skimmingstones · 20/01/2014 21:20

I wondered similar when I realised it worked as I had a tiny one fall of my neck in the summer I think where I was constantly coating in sun cream.
