Most useful items in your wardrobe?(65 Posts)
I'm trying to make more of what I already have so looking at the most versatile/useful items I have and would love to know everyone's 'must have's' so I can steal ideas! Jeans are a given!!
I'll kick off...
Black ankle boots Took me ages to find a pair that suited - now I wonder how I dressed myself without them.
Plain grey Gap sweater - works with absolutely everything, even for work if I put a shirt underneath.
Grey H&M a-line above knee skirt I have worn this to work once a week, every week since I bought it!! It's getting a bit tatty TBH
M&S blue cashmere cardi Warm (tick), Good fit (tick), flattering shape (tick), works for casual or work (tick), lovely colour (tick)
There are other items I wouldn't be without but those are the most worn items.

Blond I want your wardrobe especially the shoe collection
They've been brilliant and were a bargain weren't they justa? I wore mine constantly skiing and they seemed just as good as the Sorel's that others had.
Shredded it does look a bit like that, I might have slightly missed the point! No, I have a lot more clothes, but went through and made a mental list of my favourite things.
It has got me thinking that I need to do a bit of a wardrobe edit/ebay session….
Lots of great ideas here.

Think someone mentioned Spanx up thread. Totally agree on this
I've only recently discovered these, and I must say that now (post pregnancy) these are pretty essential under tight fitting dresses. Being a 28f I've always understood the importance of a good bra, but was late to the whole sucky-in pants thing. Transformative!
Thinking about gaps:
Because I hate being big busted, I avoid buying tops. That means I've got lots of plain black or grey t-shirts and jumpers and v little else. I need a couple of good 'going out' tops to wear with jeans, and a couple of nice tops to wear with a pencil skirt and blazer for work.
Also, I need some sort of light jacket to wear on less cold but wet days - some sort of lightweight parka or similar.
grey and blue skinnies (tesco, next)
long cardigans (mostly shades of grey/silver) (jigsaw, M&S, gap and sainburys)
Sweatshirts (grey/cream, sparkle grey, raspberry pink)
black ankle boots (rocket dog)
grey ankle boots (reiker)
bright plain t-shirts (mostly esprit who do a lot of tops in my HOC spring colours).
Denim shirt (tesco bargain)
Faxu leather leggings (next)
grey wide leg trousers
blue wide leg trousers trousers
Coloured tops (as above)
Long cardigans (as above) plus 2 x Ted Baker waterfalls
Jumper dress (boden)
Me&Em ruched maxi dress
Looks a bit boring all writen down like that but I'm trying to pull my style together a bit so it's a work in progress!
Thanks everyone - at work so will catch up properly later and review the additional lists! Lots of ideas here - more welcome
Interesting thread. Here in winter are my can't do without staples:
Long black boots
Black ankle boots
Black pea coat
Indigo straight cut jeans
Cord/denim above knee skirts
Several long sleeve tops in bright colours/stripes
Cashmere/merino/wool jumpers in neutrals
A couple of dresses (black & charcoal) that can be layered with long sleeved tops
Some of these change by season though - Spring/Autumn weather would see me wearing cardigans, fine knit jumpers and ballet flat shoes.
Tube skirts - Me & Em and Whistles wearing much better than Top Shop
Slouchy V-necked jumpers - Uniqlo, one size up although the quality is very hit and miss
Scoop-necked vests/long sleeved Ts
Interesting necklace - anywhere on the high street
Grey Carvella biker boots from TK Maxx
Heavy duty Spanx tights - also from the Maxx
Decent bra - I was wearing 32B - turns out I'm 28F!
Padded, waterproof coat - I should have looked around and spent more as I'm wearing it every sodding day.
