There is a set in boots at the moment as offer of the week. It's a kind of shellac kit. Has anyone tried it? Wondered if it was worth a punt at £45???

SomeDizzyWhore1804 Fri 29-Nov-13 12:28:41

I've had mine since March and I love it. Do my nails once a fortnight and haven't had to replace any of the polish yet.

I have it - my sisters brought it for me as a birthday present. it's brilliant, I love it!

shelley72 Fri 29-Nov-13 15:39:46

This is the one: nail set.
Couldn't check back earlier, but seems as though it is a good buy then? Is it easy to do? Very time consuming? Shellac doesn't last that well on me, maybe couple of days and I'm fed up of wasting money!

sweetheart Fri 29-Nov-13 16:14:27

I have never had a Shellac one done so I can't comment on that but it probably takes me 20-30 mins to do my nails if they are clear - obv it takes longer if you have to remove the old stuff first. It's no more difficult than painting your nails normally. I love mine.

I have it and love it!

Trumpton Fri 29-Nov-13 18:17:20

It's a great set.
I have also found that one layer of gel base (cooked. ) Then ANY nail polish left to dry normally . Then a gel layer cooked again is brilliant . It means that you can use any of your favourite polishes as well as the Sensational colours.

Quejica Fri 29-Nov-13 18:42:33

I too have this Sensationail set and love it. £45 is a great price.

ceres Fri 29-Nov-13 19:27:42

can I ask those who have used it - does this stop your nails from breaking?

Trumpton Fri 29-Nov-13 19:41:54

Yup indeedy ! Whilst the gel is on it protects them . I have paper thin nails dur to chewing them for years .
But...but ... Do NOT over file the nail surface . In fact I would say do not file the nail at all.

shelley72 Fri 29-Nov-13 19:50:23

Oh why didn't I buy it today <kicks self>

bigTillyMint Fri 29-Nov-13 19:55:36

Couldn't you order it online and pick up instore for free?

nomoreminibreaks Fri 29-Nov-13 19:55:45

After reading this I've just ordered one to collect from the local store. If it really does work then it should pay for itself in all the expensive nail polishes and stick on nails I buy for them to last a day!

It can be my Christmas present to myself...

cessie322 Fri 29-Nov-13 19:57:11

Is it only on offer today? I want one!!

handcream Fri 29-Nov-13 19:57:32

I have the gel kit and lamp (not this kit though) What I would say is taking the gel polish off isn't easy. Soaking in acetone isn't good for your nails at all. Eventually my fingernails started breaking off.

Now, I use clear OPI nail envy on my fingers and go to a mobile thearpist for my gel toes. Gels on your toes last for months

TamzinGrey Fri 29-Nov-13 20:16:43

The offer doesn't end until Thursday shelley, and they're still in stock so you're not too late. Just ordered mine - what a bargain!

SirRaymondClench Fri 29-Nov-13 20:50:27

Shellac and Bio Sculpture wrecked my usually strong nails and left them paper thin, does this kit do the same?

minibmw2010 Fri 29-Nov-13 21:25:34

It looks fab but I have to ask, how the hell do you paint your other hand to look good ??? I am right handed and can make my left look good, but no chance the other way around?

nomoreminibreaks Sat 30-Nov-13 18:54:13

Ok I couldn't wait as I found myself near a big boots today so I bought it and will return the one that I ordered.

Just tried it out and it looks pretty good (mini my right hand does look a bit more untidy than my left!) and I find that the polish goes on more easily than normal polish. My nails are pretty short at the moment so I think they'll look better once they've had chance to grow a bit.

Dollydowser Sat 30-Nov-13 20:30:03

Shellac doesn't last 5 minutes on my nails. I use Gelish currently £32.69 for a starter kit from Amazon, its normally £47 plus VAT at the wholesalers so a really good deal. No colour varnish with it though.

Is no one worried about the uv lamps used to cure (cook) the gel?

Surely it's no different to being at a mini tanning salon for your fingers?

Will lots of people have very wrinkly fingers in 15 years time???

Doearwigsmakechutney Sat 30-Nov-13 23:29:55

We are too busy admiring our lovely nails to notice wrinkly hands grin

lookatmybutt Sun 01-Dec-13 12:50:56

I also grin at milktraylady.

In all seriousness, I thought this may be a different kettle of fish because it comes with an LED lamp and not a UV one, but I have no idea if this makes a difference with regard to Judith Chalmers fingers - but you only need to keep your fingers under the lamp for a couple of mins at a time, tops. If in doubt, I shall slather my hands with sunblock.

I'm so excited, I got a set too!

It's been quite fun looking up all the info with regard to 'how tos' on the internet. I came across some sort of beautician's militia who are VERY anti-anything other than CND products. Things I learned from them:

1. CND is the only shellac. They have 'shellac' trademarked (except they don't).
2. Bluesky products are fake, even though they are branded differently and do not even pretend to be CND.
3. Bluesky will give you fingernail cancer, make your children be born with 10 heads, is responsible for global warming because it's made in China and is fake.
4. If you buy Bluesky, you are supporting child exploitation, prostitution, organised crime and terrorism. Just because.

I'm looking forward to buying a bunch of Bluesky FAKELACS and twiddling my perfectly manicured thumbs like a Bond villain.

Hi grin

Maybe I'm silly to be worrying about wrinkly fingers!

Led lamp sounds good.
How do you get the stuff off?
