Help me style my fabulous new skirt please!

I've just bought this

and it's beautiful. Really swirly and the sequins are a rose gold colour so it looks much nicer than a £14 Primarni special!

I wear dresses and never skirts so haven't the slightest clue what to wear with it! My style is 50's - could this skirt work for that look?

Tell me what top (black maybe? - what style??) and shoes you would wear with it please?!

Wow that's gorgeous! Someone braver than me will tell you how to style it for daytime - I'd tuck a black or white silky vest or tee into it and wear with black pointy flats for night, keeping the focus on the skirt, maybe with hair in a drug smuggler bun.

I don't think you can wear sequin til December though.

Grin @ drug smuggler bun!

Yeah I was thinking a simple top. A tee probably better than a top.

It's a going out so won't be wearing it during the day. I'm short and curvy so would prefer heels to flats. Hmmm.

Yy, a sweetheart neckline fitted top/t shirt and a neckscarf would be the way to go I think. Very fifties.

For daytime, I'd pair it with some tan knee high boots and a long sleeved t. And a neckscarf. The lines between day and night are blurred for me Grin

Oh, shoes-wise I'd go for stilettos, no question. I'd do white ones and channel late 50s/early 60s vibe, but any colour would work if they weren't too high and were pointy enough.

Great skirt!

I'd wear it a tight black turtle-neck short-sleeved top (Audrey Hepburn style) & black suede kitten heels, or a black fitted cardi (like this.

For a more ChaCha di Gregorio look I'd go for shoes like this

It would look cool with a black biker jacket.

That would look fab with a short sleeved polo neck- good call, Twinkletoes.

BunnyLebowski · 10/10/2013 19:06

Thanks guys

I'm not a polo neck kinda gal and positively detest kitten heels.

Love the Chacha shoes though Smile

I'm leaning towards a simple black top. Asos have a few options.

I also like the idea of a little cardigan in a contrast colour (greeny blue or bright pink maybe). Lorelai Gilmore styleeee.

Will be back with prospective tops.

You can do it lots of ways - with sheer pussybow blouses (I think Jigsaw had one) - certainly black t-shirts of most description and also don't discount lighter colours with it.

maybe try on pewter/silver with it as contrast but in diff fabrics if you kwim?

Black bikers - River Island had one.

if they're your thing (and suit you) GET ONE! I got a H&M special edition one earlier this year (100GBP?!) and LOVE IT and it suits my style.

You could wear it during day - e.g. smart lunch etc. why keep it for night?? but during seasonal time - e.g. Nov 5th/Xmas season etc

Thanks MissD I really like the idea of pewter. Will have a mooch

What do we think of the following tops??

I've thrown in all sorts of styles as, like I said, I'm not used to wearing tops with skirts!

Please bear in mind that I'm 5'4' and a size 14 with DD boobs so not a waif like the models!

cheap wrap

blush blouse

black blouse I think I like this one

blush cami

black cami

That skirt is gorgeous Grin just out of interest, how long is it?

Report
Twinklestein · 10/10/2013 21:14

Apols, 'turtle' neck was not what I meant - apparently it's 'crew' neck.

like this or this - but with shorter sleeves.

This is nice too.

If you don't like stilettos, what kind of shoes appeal OP?

Love that last DP's one Twinklestein. Gonna order it. Thank you.

I like heels just not kitten ones. And not stupidly high ones.

And my feet aren't the prettiest so nothing too open iyswim.

I usually wear tbars or maryjane type shoes. Don't think they'd work.

these would be nice in either colour.

Those ones are definitely too strictly.

I love my strictly shoes Grin Wearing them tomorrow night with a super fitted pinup style black pencil dress with a corset back. They look really good!

Thanks for trying tethers but it's a hell no to those shoes. Just not me at all. Sorry!

I've ordered a black and a blushy pink cami. Will report back.

You could just go all out Strictly with these

Those are lovely but entirely too exposed for my crubeen like feet. I need them to be at least partly enclosed.

These are a bit racy.

UPDATE*!!!

So I've received the tops

here and

here

and they both look lovely with the skirt. Tucked in and then loosened out a wee bit. Think I slightly prefer the blush one which is a gorgeous peachy pink irl.

So shoes Confused

Nude? (I hate nude shoes). Gold? (too matchy?)

I have a budget of about £50. I need heels as the skirt is below knee length and I am a hobbit.

Help! Tethers where are yoooooouuuuuuu??

Don't be silly, I'll end up recommending clogs Grin

Ok, I too hate nude shoes and am undecided on gold. Will look.

Do you mind open toe or do you want completely closed?

Am thinking black suede shoes with that pink top and nude clutch or thin belt would be lovely... Otherwise I'd perhaps go green...

Report
BunnyLebowski · 14/10/2013 20:02

Like open toe and closed but prefer a roundish toe to a pointy one.

Green?? I would not have gone there! I do love colourful shoes though.

Would pewter work? I've seen some nice ones.
