So I was in Ted Baker the other day and fell in love with this [ skirt]. I was wondering what you all think, bearing in mind I'm 5"8' and a 12-14 a bit heavy on the hips, is it a bit too flouncy and will it look a bit silly on someone of my build?

Was thinking of wearing it with [ this] black top and [ these] heels. What do you think? It's for a night out and possibly a Christmas party too.

I love the Ted Baker skirt. Def buy in the sales.

Oasis one is nice but I'm 5'6", and I almost always find their skirts and dresses cut too short. Even with opaque tights. Which is a pity because it's not a bad shop for pears like me.

I love the skirt and think the outfit will look lovely smile

the boohoo one looks nice but very short BUT like I said if you have good legs etc then go for it.

MissDD1971 Sun 06-Oct-13 20:56:14

tip for skirts - try a really nice maybe a nice sheened opaque tight to go with it (H&M do nice ones). also look out not now but later in H&M for black opaque tights with black diamante strips up back, very classy (had them last year) and that can take eye imo off shortness of skirt.

if you have nice legs or tights you can make it work. and correct shoes.

Skirt is gorgeous, top is hideous and the shoes are very meh!

Yes,I know there have been several posts and suggestions since but I just wanted to reply because the skirt is lovely!

I am going to go into Oasis in the week and try it on, my legs are not too bad so it may be a goer!

Whilst googling floral skirts yes I'm that sad I came across this boohoo one. For £8 and free delivery it was worth a try, it's either going to be nice or a total disaster! Waiting to get flamed lol!

I think the Oasis skirt is worth trying. It may be too short, but you might surprise yourself! the photo of the model could be photoshopped to emphasis her legs, for all you know they look biologically impossible to me

I love the Ted Baker skirt and I think the top would work tucked in. But a plain mid-heel stiletto court would be better than the sandal.

OhTheDrama Sun 06-Oct-13 12:43:31

Yes I was admiring the Oasis skirt last night but it's very short! Even at 2 inches shorter than the model I still think it's going to be too short for me to feel comfortable! What do you all think?

MissDD1971 Sun 06-Oct-13 10:52:56

I'd get the Oasis skirt!

rootypig Sun 06-Oct-13 05:19:33

This dress is beautiful too

Re head to toe floral: I think top and skirt or dress is really chic. The danger of doing one floral piece with a neutral is it can unbalance the silhouette. For that to work, I think you would need boxier, more mannish shapes, than you have with the Ted Baker skirt. Though statement jewellery could bring the whole thing together if you do go for it.

rootypig Sun 06-Oct-13 05:16:25

OP have you seen this Oasis skirt? Just as beautiful a print I think, a third of the price, and perhaps a more grown up shape?

LeoandBoosmum Sun 06-Oct-13 05:00:09

Beautiful print but a bit too sticky out.

Skirt is dressy, top is casual and the sandals would not go with the skirt at all! In my opinion.

OhTheDrama Sat 05-Oct-13 23:25:29

To be honest I hadn't realised it was 100% polyester shock. That put's a whole new spin on things, wowsers! Still love it but think I'll wait for the sale!

Karbea Sat 05-Oct-13 22:28:05

I don't like the shoes, hate gold coloured heels, I think they look cheap (even when the aren't).
I think the skirt is ok, you'd need to tuck in that top, untucked the silhouette wouldn't be right.

snowlie Sat 05-Oct-13 22:05:08

I hadn't noticed the price! If you were slim a slim fitting mohair or angora jumper would be lovely too.

SwedishEdith Sat 05-Oct-13 21:49:54

The skirt is lovely but you can't pay that for polyester surely?

snowlie Sat 05-Oct-13 21:44:39

I think the shirt is gorgeous and it should be your focus, you need a fitted top, Primark is good for scoop neck, long sleeved fitted tops - it needs to tuck into the skirt for waist definition, maybe even a body!! You know the ones with pants attached. And plain coloured closed toe heels as high as you want.

Twinklestein Sat 05-Oct-13 21:09:40

I like the idea of the skirt, but I think there are other nicer floral skirts around for that price, it's not cheap. And I agree you need to wear a fitted top with it like the model is wearing, that loose top won't look right.

The shoes are ok, I'd prefer that skirt with stiletto closed toes like these or these from Zara.

MissDD1971 Sat 05-Oct-13 20:20:40

the vertical Oasis top was best one you linked to.

you can wear that skirt I think but you need the shoes you linked to and a top - I don't know but one that pulls you in at waist I think and showcases norks maybe v neck. maybe ribbon tie at waist??

My norks are similar to yours but I've got narrow back, (28FF/G bust) longish body, small waist and long legs (but I'm 5 ft 4).

are you in proportion? I think you just need to balance out widest part of skirt.

what are your legs like? you could wear spanx etc underneath to help slim you down, as for special occasion. kwim?

OhTheDrama Sat 05-Oct-13 20:10:26

Hmmm no, 5'8" and distinctly hourglass! But it's such a beautiful skirt: wails! It won't work will it! Ah well I can dream.

PasswordProtected Sat 05-Oct-13 20:04:19

If you are 5' 10" with no tits or waist or hips, lovely. Otherwise not so good.

OhTheDrama Sat 05-Oct-13 19:56:04

What about this, this or this.

Shoes will have to stay as DH will confiscate my bank card if I sneak shoes in as well the skirt!
