www.bluevelvetvintage.com/Vintage-Deco-Inspired-Red-Satin-Evening-Gown.html

The theme for my works do this year is vintage glamour & I love the above dress. But would prefer not to have to order from America if possible.

Can anyone find me something in a similar 30s movie star style?

Friend has bought it for a ball duckyfuzz I think you could get away with it for a wedding if teemed with very low key accessories (hair down, low heels, jacket for daytime etc)

Great ideas so far but I love the back of the dress I linked so fancy backs are good.

Also, bearing in mind that I'm shorter and a little wider than average, am I kidding myself that I could get away with anything like this anyway?

I can take it, I have a back up plan in case this style is the worst idea ever!

What about a shorter length, tea dress style?

Would a 30s movie star wear rhinestones? Wink

Something like this in red accessorised with diamond esque jewellery would be fabulous.

Well I daresay they'd be real diamonds but I can't stretch to that!
That Ghost dress is fab but not sure my budget can stretch that far Hmm

Not too keen on my legs so would prefer a full length, plus I just think they are more glamorous.

TBH, at 5ft I would say avoid a dress with such a long corset section/drop waist. You need a dress which comes in at your waist. You could still have the top of the skirt skimming your curves - which bias cut does.

Take a look at Ghost, Etsy & eBay. Agree that you should avoid rhinestones Wink. Look for silk charmeuse, satin or crepe. The 1930s style was sleek and embellishment was generally achieved with jewellery.

Having said all that, a late 20s mid- calf flapper dress would be more flattering to your height. Think Great Gatsby. Or 1940s with a faux fur stole?

OP the black dress you linked to on eBay is much better for you.

TK Maxx often have Ghost eveningwear.

The black dress is better than the one in your OP. it's lovely, but not 1930s. Depends how 30s ish you want to be, really...

That eBay one also comes in red. Trouble is, my original dress had the vintage look to it. I love flapper dresses but they don't look right on me Hmm, plus I have a feeling the world & his wife will be wearing them after Gatsby.

Back to the drawing board I guess.
