Bought jeans for first time in 15 years. They are boot cut. AIBU?

I have lost weight and went jeans shopping yesterday. Bought a pair of Citizens of Humanity Amber jeans - like this.
I was going to wear them with nude wedges or silver flip flops and a tan/silver tote.
But now I'm worrying that boot cuts are frump tastic and I should have got jeans that are skinny all the way down, even though I hate them and they do not suit me.
Please tell me about boot cuts and whether I have just bought something really mumsy.
And how is best to wear them in very warm weather? (Live in tropics)

I am 42, 5'6-7 and they were a 29 inch waist - I'm a 10/12 hour glass shape, still trying to shift a bit of weight on my tummy.

Thanks.

I think they're fine to buy/wear if the shape suits you and you like, it but it would be unusual for the same pair to work with both flip flops and wedges as they are likely to be either too long for the former or (more dangerously frumpy) too short for the latter.

Tabby, they are lovely.
My DSil, is gorgeous and a size 8. She always wears boot cut jeans. She looks fab, and it has convinced me to get a pair this winter.
I agree with mysteryfairy though-how will you wear wedges/flats with the same pair?

I haven't taken hem up yet; they are too long so could be used for either. I'd get more wear out of them with flats but have no going out or smart jeans, and jeans/heels/pretty top is big evening look here.

I have skinny pedal pushers (mid calf) and shorts to wear with flats so guess the Ambers should be used for heels and wedges and nights out.

I only wear flip flops or Birkies in day and don't go out much though.

YA utterly NB.

If you like them and you think they look good then wear them and enjoy wearing them. I hate that tendency amongst a tiny minority on here that we should all follow some fashion trend or other. These are people who use "mum" as a derisory adjective.

Congrats on the weight loss too ThanksThanksThanksThanks

Oh are they? It was a v trendy high end shop when I bought them and the v trendy young assistant suggested them... Maybe she wanted me as trendy unlikely, as in pedal pushers and navy tee with flip flops rather than mumsy!
I did a search on boot cut jeans on MN and found people being disparaging in 2011... If they are back and I managed to swerve skinnies completely I will be thrilled!

Thanks for help everyone.
Next q - is it ok to hem myself or should I go to a sewing place and ask them to do it?

Think I will keep them long, for wedges... What is optimum length? Mid-instep?

Wear them

I wear them as they balance me. I have wide hips and in skinnies I look like a reverse weeble

I wear them most often with silver flip flops too

Gibber - lol at reverse weeble.
I look like I'm wearing footless tights in skinnies.
Like I'm about to do some sort of interpretative jazz dance routine.

I can't pull off skinnies either as I have wide hips too. But bootlegs and bf fits are perfect. I wear mine with vest tops and pumps or sandals. Or of I'm going out somewhere special ill wear wedges and a dressier top x

They are coming back. But for many women they never went away because they are so damn flattering.

Wear them with joy OP!

I think you should wear them with flip flops or trainers

I had a pair of these...the best jeans I ever owned. Wore them so much they have way between the thighs (I had them for 2 years)
Very flattering.

I'm off to Selfridges denim dept next month for a couple of pairs of jeans....worth investing money in them.

They're gorgeous OP! And no of course you shouldn't buy skinny jeans if you hate them and they don't suit you...!

In ten years' time there will be a generation of women clinging to their hopelessly frumptacular and out-of-fashion skinnies when bootcuts are back in, while the generation below them hoots derisively about how mumsy they are. Just like my sister and I used to regard 'flares' as a near-swear word in the 80s, and regularly mocked our mother for her actually rather stylish and flattering i now realise cord jumbo numbers in our baby pics.

I look like a giant toddler in skinny jeans. A giant toddler with cute chubby thighs who is about to burst into tears on account of her cruelly unflattering outfit. Subtle bootcuts have never gone out, in this house - or in the shops, as far as I can see. They've just been rebranded as 'baby boot cuts' or similar.

They are flipping lovely OP.

Bootcut and flare suit me. I find skinnies much harder to pull off. I think that the bootcuts-are-frumpy thing is only if they are ill-fitting or too short.

I have these jeans. I do like skinny jeans still but these are a great cut. I wear mine with wedges too.

Look for sailor pants cut as an alternative-straight leg with a slight flare out from the hips. Very stylish for reluctant boot cut-ters.
