Where's the best place for a bra fitting?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 25/08/2013 21:33

I've seen the bra intervention threads on here, and I know I'm wearing the wrong sizes at the moment. I want to get properly fitted - DH has really generously asked if I'd like to go to rigby and pellor to get fitted and then purchase some new bras. Which is lovely... but, I'm not sure if I may end up feeling a little uncomfortable and intimidated there Confused. I know people M&S have a poor reputation for bra fitting, but where else could I go for a "nice" experience and somewhere where I'll end up with some decent underwear? John Lewis? Selfridges? Debenhams? Am I just being a chicken re R&P?
TIA

You don't need a fitting. Go on the bra thread and give measurements and bra guru will estimate. Then go somewhere nice like john lewis and try loads on.

Rigby and peller. Save up like I did and go for fitting and buy one really nice bra. Then use that size as a base and go shopping elsewhere like John Lewis as knickernicker said

R&P is lovely but IMHO I think it's better to go there once you are a bit more confident about your proper size and how bras should fit (they seem to fit 1 - 2 sizes too big in the back in my experience). I'd go to bravissimo (armed with info from these threads) and book a double session and try as many styles as possible.

Once you have even fitted there, you can try out your new found knowledge at places like JL and Debenhams.

Another (potential) issue re R&P is their size range isn't as good, especially at the 28/30 backs or above about a GG/H cup. So it depends what size range you think you are in. They are supposed to be great though.

I'm a Bravissimo girl at heart though

I'm very happy with Debenhams.

I tried measuring myself according to the bra threads and came up as a 34F, so tried some on in M&S ( I know, I know...) and they were huge in the cup. Currently I'm in a 38C, which I know is wrong. I'd like to go and get measured and have the whole experience, not really sure why, just sounds good Smile
Thanks for the replies btw!

I went to Rigby and pellet today an was very disappointed .nothing in stock in my size so none the wiser as nothing was really close , 34 ff ish , and it was for my wedding lingerie so was happy to spend quite a bit ! And what they recommended was not that nice , more expensive

I ce away nearly in tears feeling like an abnormal shaped freak

What sort of thing do you need missalien, maybe we can help? Bra, basque, strapless....?

Another no to R&P - I am 31 back and all they had to put me in was a 32. I know I am generally better in a 30. They fitted - but felt too loose. They had nothing I liked. And what did "fit" - but none of them brilliantly. I walked away with just a Shock Absortber sports bra in my regular size.

And they were fucking expensive. Not much less than about £80!!!

Bra intervention thread then bravissimo.

Thank you stasticallychalenger

Sorry for typos my eye sight is v bad !

I'd like a strapless basque in ivory with good support and well boned , I'm between a 34 ff and 36 g who knows ! It varies so much in each bra company . And £91 ! They said I need a rounded cup whatever that means

Was not a good experience and I went a long way to get there !

Any help gratefully received

I went to Debenhams and now have a totally transformed figure thanks to their bras, went from a 34C to a 32DD Grin

Missalien

Sadly, range of strapless basques at FF type sizes = pathetic! I was a FF myself when I got married, and ended up having a custom made steel boned corset. Not cheap, but fan-fucking-tastic and made my figure look amazing. Grin

In terms of shape, if you can bear not to wear an actual basque then I'd give serious though to the wonderbra ultimate as it may give you a better shape bust wise. I'd possibly order several things online and try them under your dress as what looks great in the flesh may not work under it.

basques
hestia - not your size on this link but it is made in your size, you'll need to hunt around as it's a previous season but still loads available
fauve rosa - fauve is lovely quality normally
panache evie
debenhams gorgeous range
charnos
elomi
masquerade tiffany

the first one in your size
