AIBU to have gone off the 'hair doughnut' style? Is it trashy now?

I really liked the hair doughnut style as it was a simple and easy way to create a glamorous look and great for me as I have thin/ frizzy hair so need to wear it up. It's also a great way for me to disguise the fact that I don't have much hair!

However recently I have seen a few people with 'hair doughnut' hair and thought they looked really trashy (not just because of the hair doughnut, just the overall look).

What's your view on the hair doughnut? Trashy or glam?

think it depends what you wear with it, I like it but have seen girls and thought ergh with too much make up, and hardly any clothes

I think it looks a bit trashy now, sorry!

I think it is veering towards trashy now, everyone is doing it and it is obvious it's just another way to pile hair up, nothing intricate about it.

Can anyone suggest an alternative, less trashy, way to use hair doughnut?

Maybe a Princess Lea style?

If it's not massive (like Little My) then it won't be too awful. I suppose the colour adds to the awfulness of it too!

What do you mean by hair donut? Just a messy bun?

I don't know how to link on here, but Google 'hair doughnut' then click on images to see what I am talking about

I just bought one (a small one) and I can't figure out how to get the hair over it properly. Guess it works as a very messy bun.
Think the massive ones on top of heads look ridiculous, like a bun hat.

I think OP means like here

I still quite like them, I think slightly messier ones in particular look quite nice. I think the v. tight, dancer's bun style can look a bit trashy now. They're very convenient though!

Yes Jean that is what I mean

I've gone off it too, but I now use mine to add bulk and smooth my hair over it in one piece to create a chignon instead

I am mystified as to how that looks trashy. Some trashy looking women wear their hair like this but that's like saying wears jeans so jeans are now trashy.

Big side bun. Always looks lovely.

Btw I don't think normal big buns look trashy.

When the bun is right on the top of the head it looks awful, so trashy! At the back of the head not so bad.

I don't like the very smooth, hole in the middle, obviously using a donut look, but if you use a smallish one and sort of swirl all the hair out of the hole before tucking and pinning it so it gives a fuller bun that looks like a no-donut one then they are good. Very much depends on position too, on top of the head cottage loaf style is not very flattering, but the exact best position for any individual seems to be dependent on face shape, clothing, fringe etc.

It's awful. Right on top of the head, and as big as the head, like a hat seems to be the favoured style. Yes, very trashy.

Not always doughnut buns either, the standard giant, and/or messy, buns atop the head too.

It's really for teenagers the whole look, though.

I think high on the head combined with leggings, T shirt, big hoop earrings and false eyelashes looks a bit much. Back of the head with looser hair and smaller earrings and proper clothes looks groomed. To me anyway.

I love mine! I either wear it low on the side or really high (but thats just if I'm getting dressed up and need some height)

It's in how you wear it, imho

I think the doughnut type bun is fine in itself but I hate it piled really high on top of the head, like this is beyond trashy. I am tempted to say she should be jailed for the hair alone but it might be in bad taste.

I call it the Easyjet Bun - ive flown easyjet a few times over the past year and every female steward wears them - very neatly though, not the messy bun style. They also mix in a skintight scalp hugging ponytail before they put the bun in.
