How old were you when you noticed your first grey?

Hi

Anyone else out there getting increasingly alarmed at the amount of greys they're getting?

Ok, so I probably noticed my first before I was 20, but it was a one off. If I found another, it would probably be 6 months later. I'd pull it out, be a little concerned, but then that would be it, for possibly another 6 months, or more.

I'm 29 and recently, I'd say over the past 4 months or so, I've noticed I'm getting much more. As soon as I've pulled one out, another one or two pop up and it's really noticeable against my very dark brown, almost black, hair.

I know there are more important things to worry about Grin, but just wondered if late/end 20's is a common age to start going grey.

I hate the thought of having to dye my hair regularly from now on. My hair is buggered as it is and adding dye would probably just cause it to give up and break off.

So how old were you?....

Been battling grey for most of my life. Giving it up and dyeing it lavender grey next month in the hope its less time consuming to cover roots than grey!

I'm thirty two

I'm 40 and I haven't found one yet. Both my parents only started to go grey quite late though so I must take after them.

Katie, that's not the same as a purple rinse is it Confused

I just remembered, my auntie, who apparently I take after, looks wise, went completely grey in her 20's and has dyed it ever since. She has this really bushy, too dark for her age, over processed hair now. My nanna on the other hand (her mum) only started to go grey in her 70's. She's 87 now and she's still not completely grey. More salt and pepper really.

I was 17. I have dark hair so it's super noticeable. probably only 15% grey now though.

Haven't found any yet at 31, but my mum had a proper grey stripe by 24 and a couple of friends had proper salt and pepper hair by their late 20s so I don't think you're unusual OP. Am assuming I'll be getting some very soon! DH has had two grey hairs for about ten years now Confused

19 or 20. I used semi permanent dyes from 22 to 28, then only permanent would cover my grey. At 39 I decided to stop the dye, and I'm 40 and white at the front, grey elsewhere. I love it!

Found a white bouncy one last week in my hair, having had odd white ones in my eyebrows for the last year or so (I'm 32). Apparently, it's the first white pubic hair that's truly sobering...

18 - at the end of my A-levels! I've added a few per year since then. I'm 37 now and just have a smattering. I started early, but it seems to be going quite slowly!

About 32 or 33, just the one. Am 35 now and have 2 or 3 grey hairs. My dad didn't have any noticeable grey hair till his 40s and even now in his late 60s is still quite salt-and-pepper. Hopefully I'll take after him (sadly I got his chubbiness gene too though).

You pull one and another 7 grow back in its place!

I noticed my first when i was 21. I rather liked it so left it where it was. It was like a silver bit of thread and three times as thick as a normal strand of hair.

But then other people started to comment on it, making me self conscious, so i yanked it.

Now i have three!

I'm not even 25!

kez, if your DH only has two grey hairs, why doesn't he just pull them out? Grin

Tbh, if I could rock it and look like Angelina did when she had grey hair, I would. Although, she was about 24 and dyed her hair grey. Few women can get away with grey I think, but when they do, it can look really classy and chic.

Ewe, really? Is that right? You pull out one and more grow back in it's place? As soon as I see one, I yank it out immediately, maybe I should stop doing this Confused

I've been going grey since my 20's, I'm now 38 and last year decided enough was enough so have been very slowly (with the help of highlights & low lights) been letting my go grey. I've haven't coloured it since Feb and I love the colour it's gone especially as I now get lots of compliments on the colour Grin

My younger sister on the other hand is going grey and hates the fact that shes going grey with a passion, its like the world has ended for her.

This makes me feel better!

51 and barely a grey hair anywhere ! (I do have plenty of other 'negative' features - awful hair (apart from colour), very plain face) so am rather glad the hair is still a natural dark brown.

I was 14. Dyed, but would have been completely white by early twenties.
