Can anyone tell me what the sizings for Hell Bunny are like? Also Nougat dresses?

I am on a never ending search for a dress for my "special" birthday next month, and fancy something retro. Love the Hell Bunny ones but not sure if I want to go for something as "out there" or something more classic that I am more likely to wear again. I have seen a couple of nice Nougat ones with a retro feel. Can anyone guide me on sizings?

I am normally a 14 in a dress and am ample of bosom but more like a 10 on bottom half, so often find it difficult to get well fitting dresses. Any other suggestions much appreciated!

Hell bunny halterneck circle dresses are generous imo-they have a stretchy bit at the back. I can fit into an XL and I am a size 16.

Imo they are not very good quality for the money. Lady vintage or Colletif do similar type retro dresses that are great quality. If you can hang on until the end of the month then I think Collectif are having a big sale.

Their Dolores dresses are very generous in the bust-I can fit in a 14 comfortably.

Thanks for that. I have looked at Lady Vintage, but my sister got one of theirs recently for a wedding, (the one with the balloons on it) ordered her usual size but it was very small on her. Also the zip burst when she put it on. She ordered the next size up, it came and the zip burst when she was getting ready for he wedding and she had to be sewn into it. She did send it back. So that has put me off them a bit. I thought the quality of the dress material was disappointing compared to the pictures, although they are not expensive.

Would you say that LV are on the small size generally? I will have a look at Collectif just now.

Wow I am surprised at Lady V as I have always found their quality to be good.I think the balloon print was one of the newer designs though?-in viscose? The cotton dresses are nicer imo.I think the Swing dresses are on the smaller size although I think they have all recently been resized. The hepburns come up bigger and longer.

Agree with LV - swing dresses tighter - go a size up but the hepburns I think are pretty true possibly on the larger. i have a cotton one and find it great , washes well and colours bright after a good couple of washes.
Got my petticoat from Sohos fast service....

Yes I think the balloon one was viscose, I had assumed it would be cotton, which I much prefer. It sounds like a blip. I will have a look again and maybe post links so you can help me decide. Thanks!

Agree with the others, slightly generous, but not the greatest quality. I still love them though.

Collectif are pretty good on sizing IME, and much higher quality.

I've also heard really good things about Vivien of Holloway.

MyBoysAreFab Mon 22-Jul-13 21:15:20

Oh feck I am really confused now! There is so much choice. Vivien of Holloway has some lovely ones - this one is Wow! though not one I would be likely to get much wear out of!
I also like this one - classic.
Like this Lady V one []]

Am a bit wary about length of the swing ones as I am only 5'3" so they might be too long. There is too much choice!!

The dress is for my 50th birthday party - I refuse to grow old gracefully!

MurderOfGoths Mon 22-Jul-13 21:18:53

I want that fruit one!!!

Ashoething Mon 22-Jul-13 21:31:01

I love the fruit one.Re length-I am 5'6 and they sit just on my knee but I believe the new prints are longer and a truer vintage length? They give measurements on the site.

MyBoysAreFab Mon 22-Jul-13 21:31:30

MOG I had a nosey at your profile pic, and can see that you would look amazing in it! What about the Telstar one!!

MurderOfGoths Mon 22-Jul-13 22:11:21

The Telstar one is gorgeous, but I marginally prefer the Masquerade one, sooo pretty!

Fifties style works well on me thankfully, just not on my wallet wink

MurderOfGoths Mon 22-Jul-13 22:29:07

Just to confuse you more, what about these beauties? Lindy bop and Revival!

MyBoysAreFab Tue 23-Jul-13 08:42:24

Stop it! Think the Lindy Bop is the wrong red for me as I have red hair, but love Revival! I think my figure would probably suit a wiggle dress more than a fuller one, but feel like going totally over the top. Still tempted by the fruit one!

I find Hell Bunny to be true-to-size or slightly generous. I'm a 10 and fit their small and size 10s with no problem. The quality seems fine to me, the flared style ones can look amazing with a petticoat. I recently tried several Tiger Milly dresses (various makes) and went for the Hell Bunny one as the length suited me better than the others.

Also worth looking at H&R dresses, very similar.

MyBoysAreFab Tue 23-Jul-13 14:16:00

How tall are you 50? and what length is the HB dress on you? Need to consider that as I am a bit of a shortarse.

50ShadesOfMaybe Tue 23-Jul-13 15:15:21

I'm 5'5". Trying to remember the dresses I tried on. Some came to mid-way down my calf - a length that I think looks very frumpy on me. Something like this - but looked much longer on me than on the model in the photo.

The Hell Bunny one I went for was halter-neck, fitted to waist, flared and ended a few inches above the knee. (Have always been partial to short skirts, so much more my style. It may be less authentically 1950s - if you care about that sort of thing. A bit like this but not in the same bonkers pattern!

I also got a petticoat to wear it with. Adds great volume which sort of counteracts the shortness of it, IYSWIM. Didn't buy the HB petticoat but something similar on eBay.

Hope this helps.

Beware when buying online from Hellbunny/popsoda. We sent something back as the size wasn't right. They sent back another item very quickly but it was the same size! Ok, everyone makes blunders. We decided to ask for a refund. We sent the item back, signed on delivery. It took nearly 2 months of chasing before they sent the refund. I think they were hoping we'd just forget about it and let them keep the money.

With hell bunny I size down
With VofH I size up
With collectif I go true to size. Collectif are quite nork friendly too. I'd say their quality has gone downhill but their sales are brilliant.
