How do you get that 'dewy' look..?

Ok, I have quite dry skin so all those foundations/primers that mattify the skin make me look deadened! Has anyone found any products, serums, primers, foundations that give you a lovely dewy look? Am over 40 now so need some help!!

I have the least dewy skin in the world naturally, but have been pretty impressed with the Nivea tinted moisturiser - I use it as a foundation on top of my usual moisturiser. And the best thing - it only cost me about £4 :)

I use Garnier BB cream with either Benefit High Bean or the cheap superdrug copy on top, on my cheekbones. I find the beam stuff is what really gives my skin the dewy look.

I am using and really like the Body Shop Vit E BB cream atm.

Bb cream works well. I have dry skin too and know what you mean about he dead look. I like bb because it adds the shine that everyone else wants to lose

Strobe cream will give a coconut dewy skin

I can't use it as I have oily or combination skin but it is fab

Use a dewy finish foundation like Chanel Vitalumiere and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. And a highlighter that isn't glittery.

And don't use powder unless you need it, for instance on your T-zone.

Healthy mix serum £10, or if your budget can stretch YSL Touché Eclat foundation £27.

And don't wait too long between moisturising and applying foundation. Skip powder altogether, even if you feel a bit greasy at first it will look much better.

I use girl meats pearl from Benefit mixed with my tinted moisturiser foundation and then also a bit of high beam too.

Right, this has been my mission for the past few years and I've invested a lot of money time!

I was looking for that glow that seems to come from within (from years of good skincare and nutrition), rather than highlighting, glitter or shimmer.

I think I've tried every highlighter in the market. My conclusion:

This is the quickest way - must be dabbed not rubbed lightly on top of make-up. It's a miracle in a bottle.

This was years ahead of its time; you'd call it a CC Cream these days, but it's SO much better. It's like a moisturising cream with a weird pigment that suits everyone. It makes you glow, even skin tone and it's very weird that one colour matches every skin. No idea how it works, but there's a reason it's a classic and has a cult, loyal following.

Either of the above will achieve glowing healthy looking skin immediately without any shimmer/glitter/ etc.

I'm also trialling a Vichy cream for Red Magazine that's AMAZING, but it hasn't been released yet - I'll check the name and get back to you.

I'm tempted myself by the Chanel thing posted upthread but not sure if it goes under or over makeup -
What is the Superdrug cheapo version of High Beam? I love High Beam but if the Superdrug one is cheaper but equally good it's a no brainer...

Clinique Even Better gives me a really dewy, glowing look. Its designed for uneven skin tone but really gives a lovely finish. Benefit Watts Up is my current favourite highlighter.

Also agree that Chanel Vitalumiere is brilliant for this and Origins Vitazing is amazing but I tend to use it with powder for more coverage which takes the glow off it a bit.

You could always try the smaller size to keep in your handbag. Just spritz it over your makeup.

NigellasGuest you can use it instead of make-up (if you have really good skin), under or over for max dewiness.

I found it works best over make-up; I use mineral powder, concealer and then the Chanel Le Blanc. The trick is to dab not rub.

Try a BB cream, it made me look 'dewy', anyway. Although, it doesn't provide much coverage if you have uneven skin tone or blemishes.

I have mega dry skin, and I love Kiehl's BB cream for a dewy finish, with a bit of Revlon cream blusher. A nice, rich moisturiser underneath too, like Avene's Extreme Tolerance cream.

I've just dug out my Decleor Iris oil and I've fallen in love with it all over again. A few drops on damp skin under moisturiser, 4 hours later I'm still dewy and moist ...result!

I'm over 40 with dry skin too so know exactly what you mean about that 'deadened' look with some of the products out there.

What has (surprisingly) worked for me lately is: Maybelline light BB cream rather than foundation and I used Boots Natural Collection blusher in natural glow (it comes in a little squeezy tube). I cover occasional spots with their 24hr long-lasting stick thing.

Gives me glowing, healthy and yes, dewy (!) looking skin. I use liz earle cleanse+polish, toner and moisturiser. I carry the toner spray version in my bag (this helps with the dewy look too).
