Serious help needed for a new gym kit!!
(43 Posts)I have about a stone to lose. My gym clothes from Pre dc still fits, and I went for my first session today. It was thankfully a personal training session in a deserted gym. There was serious wobble of my bum and boobs. And my top kept riding up because my hips and bum have grown. I hated the way I looked in the mirror. I already have a new shock absorber bra which is meant to be ultra supportive but there was still serious boob wobble. Please help me find some decent gym clothes that will stop me looking like a beached whale!!!!!
I love the Adidas climacool range - the capri pants and vests. The vests are nice and long on me and I am quite tall. NB don't get the ones with a built in bra top as some styles do have this. Shock absorber bras are great, I am also large of nork and find them very comfortable - good luck!
Sweaty Betty if you have some money to spend or I get most of my gym type stuff from tk maxx.
I've got a lot of quite nice gym clothes from H&M. I don't know if their sports bras are any good (that's one item I don't what to buy too cheap), but the tops and shorts from there are fine.
You can see it here: www.hm.com/gb/subdepartment/LADIES?Nr=4294965382#Nr=4294965382&size=100
And here's what they've got on sale: www.hm.com/gb/subdepartment/sale?Nr=4294965382
If you had serious boob wobble were you wearing the right support level of bra or even the right size? The bra interventionists on here can explain how you're supposed to measure for your bra to fit so you can check if you're in the right size - there's a thread in S&B at the moment.
I doubt you look like a beached whale, but I understand that you want to feel comfortable and confident. I get my gym tops from Decathlon - they're cheap and cheerful and quite long so come to the bottom of my bum. They also wash really well. I don't get on with their bottoms as I'm quite high waisted, but have these by USA pro. They're nice and thick and hold everything in thus reducing wobble.
and be aware that your normal bra size might not be your sports bra size.
Ooh what do you mean my normal bra size and sports bra size may not be the same??
I think the problem was that the top wasn't long enough to cover my wide hips and bum, and it emphasized their size as it ends just where they begin! It also kept riding up and I kept having to pull it down which made me uncomfortable.
The most supportive gym bra is an enell, they are expensive and ugly as hell but NOTHING moves. Second Sweaty Betty for cute gym stuff, I am checking for the sale almost hourly.
See here for advice on general bra fitting. IME I need to go one backsize higher and keep the cup the same in a sports bra (which is still a bigger cup IYSWIM. So my normal size is about 30FF, my sports bras (the ones that fit anyway!) are 32FF.
You need tight capri pants and a longer line top. I think this is the most flattering. Baggy gym gear looks atrocious on anyone. If you have a Sports Direct near you & can bear to go in, you can ring bargains. I bought 2 pairs of really nice tight USA Pro capris yesterday for £12.99 each.
For sports bras, I go down on cup, ie I'm a 32dd and I've just bought a sports bra that's 32c. It totally squishes my boobs flat which is what I want for non-movement. I have heard fab things about Enell.
I am size 16 and wear tight capris and Nike vest tops (the long ones) all from sports direct

Recommended by my running club.
As for other clothes, I've reduced from size 28 to size 14 and I choose what feels good. My body shape changed so much I barely knew what shape would look good. My thought is try out a few things you like. Ask the shop assistant to choose some for you and give those a try too.
It's not life and death, it's an experiment, and learning.
Play, have fun, enjoy your curves, know that you are being secretly eyed up simply by virtue of being a female form let alone one who likes to exercise!
Enjoy exercising your body and the rest will follow.
And LOVE the you in the mirror. Look into those eyes and know your soul shines to all those who value and appreciate who you are and what you mean to them.
Gap? Don't know if is especially flattering but nothing wobbles or rides up - their actual t-shirts are a bit baggy though - is all v durable and can cope with everything in the gym, running, yoga, horses and even scratchy bits of dry ski slope

Enell bra :-)
I've just bought a Bravissimo under wired sports bra. Lovely separated boobs so no sweaty cleavage, and zero bounce! (Which with 36HH boobs is a feat of engineering!)
Agree with capri pants and long line top. I've also got some Nike capris with a sort of mini skirt attached, sounds weird but it is surprisingly flattering.
I love my Enell bra - I used to have to wear a shock absorber bra with a sport jock crop top bra over the top to get the same effect of the Enell - no bounce!
http://www.next.co.uk/branded/sportswear-for-her/performance-clothing/17 these tops hide the bumps .. I also have a few H&M tops but find that they are crap when serious sweating happens. I bought a top in Sainsbos similar to the Ellesse one and it was fab ..I hope they still do them .

Another vote for TK Maxx! I have loads of Nike and Adidas gym stuff that was about half price from there.
And yes, tight capris and long vest or t-shirt.
Another vote for shock absorber, you really need to try them on. I'm usually 32DD and had to go for 36D in this (properly checked by fitter) and nothing moves!
I got a pair of Marika high waisted workout trousers from TK Maxx- they have a tummy control part and really slim the waist and hold in your tummy.
Take some before photos in your terrible gear - 2 weeks from now - you won't recognise yourself I bet!
Further to the tops fron Next that Rosa linked to, they do their own brand (here) which are a lot cheaper. I have a couple of them, they are really long (I am tall and they cover my bum) and quite flattering
I wear adidas sleeveless tops, something like this www.adidas.co.uk/women%27s-multifunctional-essentials-3-stripes-tank/G81030_460.html?cm_vc=SEARCH with a shock absorber bra underneath and fitted tights on the bottom half , a bit like this www.adidas.co.uk/women%27s-response-3-stripes-three-quarter-tights/W51560_390.html?cm_vc=SEARCH.
Anything baggy that looks like a day time t shirt, screams that you are trying to hide your body and in my mind doesn't look like suitable gym wear. I went to a sports shop and tried on loads of tops, took ages until I found one that was long enough and not too tight - tops with lycra are not my friend) to fit the bill.
dressing gown, then duvet on top works for me
