wearing high heels when they make you taller than the average man

argh! i have bought so many high heels and love to wear them but feel like the 50 ft woman when i wear them, towering over most of the population! I am only 5.6 yet feel ridiculously tall that it makes me self conscious

shall i just embrace it and be happy to be taller?

MacaYoniAndCheese Sun 26-May-13 22:03:44

Embrace it! And shoulders back!

Lucky you envy smile.

I'm 5' 10" and wear high heels. You must know lots of very short men. Or wear very high heels.

SofaCanary Sun 26-May-13 22:14:07

It's a wonderful thing.

MissPricklePants Sun 26-May-13 22:15:30

I am 5' 11" and wore heels yesterday to a wedding, go for it!

Beamur Sun 26-May-13 22:15:31

I'm 5'8" and if I could only walk in heels would wear them with pride! I love the feeling of height.

YoniOno Sun 26-May-13 22:19:41

Isn't 5'6" average? It's my height and I don't feel huge in heels confused I love them, in fact I feel quite dumpy in flats after a few days wearing heeled boots.

sedgieloo Sun 26-May-13 22:20:17

What sofacanary said.

I am 5'9.

Anifrangapani Sun 26-May-13 22:24:24

All the best meetings happen when you are 6 foot.

Wolfiefan Sun 26-May-13 22:24:45

I am 5ft 7.
I love heels.
I don't want an "average" man! grin

TheFallenMadonna Sun 26-May-13 22:25:09

I'm 5 11 and wear heels often. Not sure why I wouldn't want to be taller than some men?

themidwife Sun 26-May-13 22:28:22

I'm 5'7 1/2 & love wearing high heels & find that I'm by no means tall compared with the young women in bars these days! They're all 6 footers!!

southeastastra Sun 26-May-13 22:28:28

good point madonna

PareyMortas Sun 26-May-13 22:33:04

I'm taller than DH when I wear heels, I don't even notice but he rather likes it.

MavisGrind Sun 26-May-13 22:40:19

I'm 5'9 and used to wear heels for my very male/power dominated work just to piss off the (male) middle managers who found it hard to intimidate me whilst having to look up at me. Great days <wistful sigh>

OnTheNingNangNong Sun 26-May-13 22:42:50

I'm 5'11 so taller than most men and I loved wearing a high heel, embrace the height!

ChasingStaplers Sun 26-May-13 22:48:52

Another 5'9er here!
I love wearing heels looking down on all the self important men I work with and if I wasn't at home with 3DC then I'd wear them every day.
Roll on return to work! smile

southeastastra Sun 26-May-13 22:50:16

i am so glad i posted this tonight!

MrsBungle Sun 26-May-13 22:52:40

I wear heels to work everyday. I'm getting on for 6ft in them. I enjoy towering over some of the men!

LRDtheFeministDragon Sun 26-May-13 22:57:26

Ok, I know this is a bad thing on so many levels, but ... I have to admit, I did feel an evil sense of satisfaction when I went to a party and saw my wanker ex (who I'd been avoiding for, quite literally, years), and I was wearing 5 inch heels that let me look him in the eye. grin

I can't be the only one?

I rarely wear heels these days but that time did feel worth it.

gindrinker Sun 26-May-13 22:58:47

I don't like wearing heels when I'm with short women... 5'8" + heels when surrounded by 5'4 women is daft.
Taller than men... Don't care.

AKissIsNotAContract Sun 26-May-13 23:00:49

I'm 6ft so I'm taller in flats than the average man.

trixymalixy Sun 26-May-13 23:05:39

Agree with gindrinker, I'm 5'9" and have one particular group of female friends that are all teeny, and don't like towering over them. I rather enjoy towering over men though.

trixymalixy Sun 26-May-13 23:07:15

I was at a charity ball and they were taking a photo of our group. They said women to the front, men at the back. Yet I was way taller than some of the men.

VelvetSpoon Sun 26-May-13 23:07:24

I am also 5' 6 and wear heels of 4in and above; I do sometimes feel like a giant when I go out, last time I went to the pub with friends back in Essex I was taller than all the women (and most of the men!). Plus all my friends are around the 5ft mark and wear much smaller heels than me which doesn't help.

If I go out with a taller group I feel much more comfortable.
