What's the least messy way to dye your hair?

We are without a shower attachment on our bath at the moment and am trying to work out if it's feasible to dye my hair. It's been years since I've done it, but grey is overtaking and I don't feel like going gracefully yet.

Do those foams contain the mess, or should I wait until we sort out the bath? Too stingy to pay for hairdresser.

All I can say is don't leave it on too long. Mine went a bit wrong and I seem to have gone from dark blonde to accidental shades of grey. It must be bad as nobody at work commented!

Do you have a shower? You could wash it out if you get in the shower.

Otherwise, could you get a friend to do it round their house? It's better if someone else does it anyway - to ensure no bits are missed.

Can you wash it out under the bath taps? I used Boots Botanics semi permanent recently. Covered the greys and miracle of miracles didn't dye my scalp or forehead.

My hair dye tip is take some old leggings or tights and cut 'thumb holes' at the bottom of each leg then wear like a bolero? pop gloves over the leggings

Vaseline all round the hair line and ears stops the dye from staining your skin. It just wipes off when you're done applying dye. babywipes are also really good for removing any stains on the skin. far better than soap for some reason

I usually rinse mine off over the kitchen sink with dh to help We have an ancient fiberglass bath and I am worried that hair colour would get in the scratches and stain it. The shower is over the bath.so that is not an option.

I fill a washing up bowl with water and put it on the drainer so dh can just use a jug to pour it over my hair. Once he has got most of it off I have a shower to finish the job.

My hair dye stains everything (Poppy Red La Riche Directions) so I rinse it over the stainless steel sink in the utility to get most of it out. I use a mug or glass to rinse water over my head. It still stains the sink, but it comes off with bleach.

I wouldn't risk it on our white bath. I've ruined many toilet seats as well by splashing them with dye, so I'm banned from dyeing it in the bathroom Grin.

I do rinse the rest out in the shower or bath after the worst of it's out, but I admit my bath, sealant and grout are all pink as it still comes out in the shower when I wash my hair each day.
