Apple cider vinegar

I keep reading about this in various S&B threads as a rinse for hair and also diluted as a toner.

I had a look at it on google and loads of people on the reviews seem to drink it diluted as a tonic to help all sorts of digestive disorders and infections .

Is this some sort of wonder product I need in my life? Anyone tried it as a tonic? What other uses does it have?

As a teen in the 80s, I used it for every last hair rinse (diluted in cold water) and always got compliments on shine. In the last few weeks (and in my 40s now) I've done the same...I'd forgotten how good it is. My long hair seems fuller and is definitely shinier and appears healthier even though i've not had a trim for about 5 months. I can probably get away without for a bit longer. I wonder about drinking it too...i just can't stand the taste! As a toner..for what skin type?

I tried drinking it diluted as a tonic as I was having some health issues and it had come up as a suggestion on a few different searches. Taste was okaaaaay, put-up-able with, but it gave me the most awful constipation, to the extent that I just could not persevere with it - don't think I tried it for long enough to see if it actually gave any benefit.
Still have a huge bottle of the stuff, so guess I'll be rinsing and cleansing with it having read this!

It is a really good scalp tonic - especially if you have an itchy scalp. I just dilute a bit and pour over my hair and rub into my scalp.

It is meant to have loads of health benefits (google apple cider vinegar) but I've tried drinking it and found it absolutely vile.

I have the Biona one. It's not too pricey. You can get it in health food shops and on Amazon. Apparently there are different types and the "good" kind is the one with the "mother". I have no idea what the mother actually is but it means the cider looks more cloudy and has lots of sediment. Apparently that's the good, active stuff that has all the health benefits.

You've just reminded me I need to get some more.

I used to drink it as a tonic. I had a glass first thing, as soon as I got up, diluted 50/50 with warm water and with a spoon of honey added. I actually did notice that my skin was clearer and glowier while I was on this regime, but I fell out of the habit. Might start it again actually.

I didnt know about drinking it or using it for hair (do you think it will strip the colour from my hair??). But i have a few bottles here as I did use it to get rid of a plantars wart i had on the ball of my foot that was there there for years... i tried every other concievable product on the market but nothing worked. It worked well but it hurt like a bitch.

randgirl can you tell me exactly what you did ? I have a plantar wart that must be 5 years old now and I've had it frozen etc etc but it always comes back. Everyone says they will go away eventually on their own but frankly I am a bit sick of it already

pocketandsweet they dont go away on their own.... i had this one for years. Soak some cottonwool in the acv and then tape the slightly squeezed out cottonwool to your foot and night before going to bed. Yep it stinks a bed, so i just put a sock ontop so it didnt go onto the sheets. At first it will do nothing, but a few hours afterward it gets pretty painful like a throbbing right in the wart. Ive taken it off during the night at times as it hurts like hell. You have to do this regularly, every night for about 2-3 months. I stuck with it coz i was so pigsick of the damn thing. You will be able to see what is doing as it eats away at the area. After a couple of months when you think its gone, just carry on for another week or so to be sure that its really has gone. Just one bit of it left keeps growing. I did this about 2 years back now and its totally gone now.

So thats why im wondering how it helps hair and other ailments coz it really does eat away at the area you apply it..... Confused

I don't think it does strip hair/colour, no. It actually makes your hair super shiny as well as being good for the scalp.

I hate the smell almost as much as I hate the taste!

Thanks for the feedback. I can see myself buying this, using it twice and it languishing at the back of some cupboard!

Not style/beauty related, but it is also excellent for making stock. It helps leach the goodness out of the bones.

Having never heard of it, I have heard it mentioned twice today.

I was listening to BBC Radio London & someone said it 'cured' his diabetes!

I sort of swill with it and then drink it... to stop tonsil stones. Works. And haven't had any tonsillitis or adenoid problems since I started.
