Work outfits?? HELP I'm a newbie!

So I just got a new job :o

Problem - this is the first job I have ever had where there hasn't been a uniform... so I am a newbie to work wear. Blush I've been told 'smart casual' is the dress code. Confused

Could you please send me some links with nice ideas for outfits or pieces that you think would work well? What do you wear to work? (If you have freedom)

Thanks so much, I am very excited!

Well, I always try to start with dresses because then you don't need to find and match skirt and shirt. If you want cheap-ish but still nice, Next and M&s are your friend. If you have a larger budget, LK Bennett dresses are fab and almost universally flattering. Here's an idea of the kind of thing I mean. Look for ones that are machine washable.

good with a neat cropped cardigan

Ps, always be more smart than casual.

Ooo lovely ideas, thank you very much.

Certainly not a big budget, but I am slim and tallish so unless it is something that draws attention to my broad shoulders I typically suit most things.... so I am told... I'm not very adventurous Blush

Smart casual? I would probably get a nice blazer and a few blouses.. really pretty bow type ones in Miss Selfridge.

Gorgeous shirts in Zara online.

It is no harm to have some basic boyfriend cardigans from Next and you could wear simple vests/pretty scarves with them.

I have no link for you I am afraid, but look for ankle-length slim-fit trousers. (Found some at Primark last week for £12).

Wear with a blouse, or fitted jumper. Goes with flats or heels, too, so you can vary your look easily.

I agree with HandMini about looking more "smart" than "casual".

Think of accessories, too: necklaces, earrings, scarves, etc. can easily smarten up a plain skirt and blouse combo. Again, Primark, H&M and co are your friends here!

Dress and jacket. Smarter and more modern than a suit imo. I like zara, french connection, reiss for work stuff.

Thanks so much! I am so excited! Will just check dress code is right with future boss (rather than friend who works for the same company) and then start buying :o
