What do we think of this dress?

Hi,

Have bought a dress today - I don't usually wear dresses, but this one was in a colour that really suits me and I have a wedding to attend in a foreign (hot) country and I thought that maybe it would be a nice style to wear? this dress

I know it's a bit polyester-tastic but I think it suits me - just wondering what the general consensus was. I am pale skinned, dark hair and the colour for once look nice against my skin, fairly flattering. The wedding is in a vineyard, so not sure how formal/relaxed it will be...

What do you all think? Thanks

I think it's very nice. Shame it isn't something other than polyester but for the price, it's lovely.

Aw thank you! I don't shop and really struggle to pick nice things, when everyone else seems to do it so easily.

Do you think I will die of the heat wearing polyester in 35-40degree heat or will the fact that it is floaty make all the difference?

Also, what kind of cover-up would look good with it for when it gets cooler at night? TIA

It is lovely and bargainatious
I love the colour
But apart from the polyesterness (which might be fine) is it not - by being pale, long and shoulders-outy, a bit bridal/bridesmaidy for a wedding, especially if its an informal affair and the bride may be dressed down (y'know, for a bride)

If the wedding is in a hot country you will sweat like a pig in polyester. Not a good idea! IME any polyester is bad, even floaty.

It's lovely, although perhaps a bit bridesmaid-y?

I think you'll be fine. I'm sure you won't be in the blazing sun all day even if it is in a vineyard.

I thought it was nude, which would be fine (IMHO), but I now see it's pale pink. Will indeed be too bridesmaid like. Sorry.

I know 'we' officially hate polyester (and yes it is a bit 'orrid) but I really don't think it'd be a sweaty dress.

Oops.. Now some have said it is too bridesmaidy, I see what you mean. Bugger. I was planning on wearing with a little sparkly bolero of sorts (top shop style), probably in the daytime too, as I don't like having my shoulders/tops of arms out, so essentially it would look more if a maxi dress...

Bridesmaids can literally wear anything these days so I wouldn't worry. It's a lovely dress and inless you're planning to carry a bouquet and scoop up the bride's train I don't think you will be mistaken as a bridesmaid. Try monsoon for little cardies and wraps x

The dress is very bridesmaid or matron of honour looking. And you will be hot in it if its a hot climate.

I also think the style of the dress wouldn't look right with a bolero on top but could be worn instead with a summer weight pashmina or shawl.

Agree that it's a lovely dress BUT I would think 'Did she want to e the bride / bridesmaid?' if I saw someone wearing it at a wedding. Also agree that one shouldered would look odd with a bolero / shrug etc. and a wrap would make you look even more like a bridesmaid.

And polyester will be v. sweaty in the heat.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I doubt you'd be mistaken for a bm or someone who wanted to be one, and certainly not someone who wanted to be bride. I think it's lovely and a wrap is not something a bm would wear as need their hands for flowers/holding wedding dress etc so that sounds like a good plan to me

I like the dress you picked but if it is going to be as hot as you say and it is for a wedding, I wouldn't buy it. Chances are you'll get too hot and sticky in it . It is more suited to a UK wedding if worn with a wrap than an overseas wedding (I think).

Enjoy the wedding whatever you end up wearing!

Dress 6 from the above list is lovely, cotton will be more suitable for a hit climate as well.

Whatcha, thanks for the links. Will have to get on the pc to see the Debenhams ones, it just goes to the homepage on my phone. The Wallis ones are not me, too patterned. Sorry!

I am looking for something blush, dusky pink or mink/oyster coloured - I think these tones suit me best. I want to look nice at this wedding but I always seem to get it wrong! Keep the suggestions coming, I can do with the help thanks

Lovely - would take a shawl in case it's gets cooler in the evening and to protect the shoulders if in the sun

I think it's lovely. If it were me I'd make sure I wore a strapless bra under it to catch any boob sweat.
