holiday bras - any nice ones out there that don't show much under clothing?

Hello ladies Smile

Going abroad in a week's time (yay) and need a holiday bra. I'm 38B.

I already have a new white one which is fine under white clothes, but need another for coloured clothing.

I've looked at nude or black bras in M&S, which is my preferred port of call for underwear, but they are either lacy which I can't wear, or have big cups.

I need a minimal/barely there (?) one, preferably with a nice design, but not embossed where the design shows through your clothes, and it also needs detachable straps.

Do these exist? Confused

Not asking for much, am I? Please help.

Many thanks in advance Smile

I have one of these I take on holiday:

The picture looks a bit crap, but I find it really useful, can be worn with absolutely any style of top, and in fact I mostly wear it strapless. I also think the cups come up a bit small, so you might want to size up.

I live in a warm place and this bra is fantastic.

People have holiday bras??

nehru, my mistake, maybe I should have said 'bras suitable for holidays' in the thread title Smile

I'm looking for a bra that won't be too 'evident' iykwim, under the strappy tops/ dresses that I wear on holiday, something light and breathable in the heat, yet offers support.

Legs - The wonderbra looks a good idea, small cup, and the thin straps.

Frugal- Thanks for the Figleaf ideas, too. Really good contenders.

crushedintherush Before trying to suggest some suitable bras, can I ask whether you are certain you're a 38B? It's just that if M&S if your usual place for bras and you've been measured/fitted by them, then in all probability, your current size will be wrong.

:) Sorrel...was debating a very similar post!

SC You'd probably have managed to write yours without typos Blush

Hi sorrel, yes, I was measured in M&S. Smile

I intended to buy a bra from a store and try a few on before buying, sizewise as well as type Smile

Up to now, the wonderbra is a contender but all advice is very much welcome, thanks.

In that case chances are you aren't a "true" 38B. To give you an idea, Sorrel and I visited M&S (as did some other ladies) to test out their bra fitting. We both know our bra fitting stuff - I get fitted at Bravissimo myself.

Me - true size is around a 30HH. M&S tried to put me in a 36F
Sorrel - true size around 30G/GG. M&S - tried to say a 36 or 38D.

There is some information about how a bra should fit here

Thought i heard the bra klaxon!!

Crushed, I would put money on you being no more than a 34 back and probably a D/E cup.
Sorrel and SC got me from a 36D (M&S) to a 30GG and I look like a new woman!

I was measured in m & s as a 36A many years ago, but found through trial and error that a 34B or C worked better. And then about a month ago I read one of the bra intervention threads and now I'm wearing 32DD or E depending on brand!

However I recently bought one the wonderbras in my link above to match my "new" size but it just didn't work so well in that style. The trouble was that most DD cup bras are styled for large breasts and lots of cover, and it just didn't work well on me with that particular bra. The bra guru's "scooping" method works wonderfully on all my other bras, but for some reason not on that one (perhaps due to skimpiness) so I have stuck to my old 34C.

Ok, this is going to be fun as I'm going away next Sunday and have only wed and next sat to find one (I know I've left it a bit late) Blush

You ladies sound just what I need Smile

It it helps at all, I'm broad round the top half of my body, and my boobs aren't especially big.

Do you have a measuring tape?
Out of interest, what dress size are you?

Report
crushedintherush · 12/05/2013 20:02

Statistically, no I don't think I have one, but will hunt around.
In pants I'm 12-14, and 14 on top half. Classic Pear shape.

Dresses (which I don't wear much) size 14 Smile

In that case I would be pretty surprised if you are a 38. I'm roughly a 14 on top (although I am busty) and wear a 30. Most 14s tend to be somewhere around a 32-34 (it's not an exact relationship but can give a rough indication)

If you are an odd measurement they add 5". Plus, they don't measure firmly enough anyway. I'm a fairly definite 30" measurement, they measured me too loosely so ended up with 31", then added 5" so came up with a 36 back...I could have tied it in a bow!
