I wear bootcut jeans, have been told they suit my pear shape and are 'classic'. I would like to try skinny jeans. would they suit me? iam 34, 5ft 2inch size 12.

Skinnies with wedge trainers always look nice. But they have to be super skinnies really. You're not uncool but always good to try something out of your comfort zone.

Give them a whirl, I wear skinnies with long boots and a tunic top. I still wear bootcuts as well - don't let anyone dictate to you what you should and shouldn't wear!

DaydreamDolly I sometimes wear Nike dunks with loose it skinnies and it's not all that bad. I think it depends upon the style of the boot, the colour, etc. Just the right amount of jean slouch can look ok.

When I wear the trainers with super tight pants they make my feet look really big - but then i have narrow calves - but only wear a size 3 shoe. You have to beware of 'situation stump foot' Grin

would skinny jeans with the bottoms rolled up a little and ballet pumps work?

I'm pear shaped and wear both. Skinny jeans can still look good on those of us with bigger hips/bums/thighs if you wear a longer top.

I spent some time today in a very fashionable part of this town.
The laid-back luxe look around at the moment seems to be long bootcuts worn with a fairly fitted and not too long cotton V-neck sweater and discreetly colorful platform open sandals, Missoni type.

Skinnies are the downmarket look around here, as every street vendor sells them for circa 8 euros. And sorry, not an ideal shape for a pear, as they tend to exaggerate the hip area.

There's nowt wrong with exaggerating the hip area - Beyonce seems to do all right Grin

I fucking hate skinnies. I don't often use the f word but I really do. They do not suit me & make my average size 6 feet look like canoes.

But you wear 'em if you want...!

Little diamond - yes, the skinny with hem rolled up and ballet pump is the way forward. Ditch your boot cuts, you will instantly feel trendsome. Soft skinnies from Primark were FIVE QUID last week in sale. In gorgeous colours. Do it.

You have to be wary of the parsnip leg effect with skinnies as well - that's more noticeable with skinny jeans and ankle boots.

I am the same size and height as you but an hour glass - and nearly ten years older. I wear skinnies from either M&S or Topshop. They look fine with ankle boots, or worn rolled up v slightly with ballet shoes or sandals. I'm struggling to find anything to wear with them full length in spring though - I wanted Converse but they looked terrible. So I think you'd be fine in them, but try them with a range of shoes to see what works best.

Oh and I sometimes wear Oasis bootcuts too, uncool or not. They look fine on me but a) only with heels and b) I deffo feel more 'mum' looking when I wear them. I think they have to be long and dark to look half way okay.

Bootcuts are not uncool. I wear what suits my shape, not what's fashionable.

I mentioned it a few weeks back but I recently re- discovered my gap long and lean boot cuts ... And I have to say they are pretty damn fabulous, comfy and look great with a wedge sandal.

I never wear jeans-they don't suit me but I much prefer boot cut to skinnies. I think very few people actually suit skinnies-you have to be pretty "skinny" yourself imo.

I think bootcuts look good with a fitted top and wedges or a heel-not flats though. But wear what you feel good in.

I wear both Next sexy bootcut jeans that flatter the figure, and skinny black soft jeggings from Dorothy Perkins called Eden. I wear them with ballets and denim shirt (the DP ones), and I think they look ok Smile

I love both types of jeans. I'm 47 and 5ft 4. Hope that helps Smile

....meant to add, the DP soft jeggings aren't skinny skinny, iykwim, there is a little give. I wouldn't wear them if they WERE skinny skinny as I'm to old for that style, IMO Smile

Aren't wide leg flares coming back in? Or so I read somewhere.

I own about 6 different pairs of jeans. I love my bootcuts :)

littlediamond33 you know what a parsnip looks like? A fat carrot, right? Some people with heavy thighs and slender calves can look a bit parsnippy in skinnies and ankle boots.

When I say some people, of course I mean me.Blush
