salicylic and lactic acid peel - wow!

Just thought I'd put this out there.

I was one of the sheep who sizzled along with everyone else last year after seasonofthewitch's excellent advice. I used Glycolic acid and had some nice results - smoother skin, healthier looking. I don't think the results were astonishing enough to keep me going however, and it sort of fell by the wayside but I've had a crappy year and my skin was reacting with all sorts of horrors on my chin area (I'm 40, so probably hormonal changes at play also). I cleared things up with the brilliant la roche-posay effaclar duo but after idly browsing one day i also bought some 25% salicylic and lactic acid peel from ebay - wow! Even after the first peel I could see an enormous difference in my skin and now, after my second even more so - it's just... brighter, somehow, and my pores are empty!

At around £6 for a bottle which will do LOADS of peels this HAS to be one of my best skin-care purchases ever :)

This is the company that I bought from. 'Active Solution's (I think they used to be 'forever young'). They're brilliant- I've bought loads of bits from them in the past :)

They do a variety of different strengths and different peels.

So how are the effects different from glycolic?

Well in my case, there's a 'brightness' that I didn't get before, but also it's this cleaning out of the pores that is brilliant. With glycolic my skin felt very soft, but I didn't get the 'wow' factor. I suspect that everyone's skin is different however, so I suppose my key point is that if you haven't had brilliant results with the glycolic to keep trying (and vice versa actually!)

Just had a look at the site and noticed that the 10% is good for keratosis pilaris which poor DD has developed on her face. She's getting very self conscious of them so think I might give it a go.

Knitknack, I use stuff from that seller too! Most recently the malic/mandelic, but I've just put in an order for a lactic one. She's very helpful if you have qs too. Re the different acids, my skin doesn't like salicylic at all, and glycolic dries it out a bit.

May tell us about the malic/mandrel ic - how did you find out about it and what are the effects like? (Slightly obsessed :) )

How bizarre! I bought this stuff a couple of weeks ago and did the first one last night! You've linked to the 15% one though, was it that or the 25% one you used? I've got the 15% one and I'm not sure if there's any difference tbh although it says its the process if the skin shedding and not the peel that works iykwim so I will persevere. Can you also tell me what technique you tsetse to put it on? I'm not sure I used enough/put it on properly as I was actually shitting myself about trying it! It stung a bit but not much...

I worked my way through reading that other thread on these peels and have also been intending to try it.

Just had a look at the seller on eBay, I want everything! Did you use the post peel solution and vitamin c serum too? I am a bit rubbish about using sun protection unless actively sunbathing, but don't want to cause loads of damage if the peel makes your skin very sensitive.

I also like the look of the dark circle cream for the eyes. Anyone tried that?

I'm also unsure what strength to go for. Might try 20%. 15% doesn't sound like it does much and it says 25% is for experienced users.

I hope I won't be disappointed, I'm expecting miracles now!

I too was regular poster on Seasonofthewitch thread My GA peels have also fallen by the wayside, and I'm currently experimenting with the dermaflannel (also from Bravura, you may have read about).

My only concern about the salicylic was that posters seemed to report a lot of skin peeling afterwards. Have you experienced this at all?

Thanks for this. My skin doesn't get on at all with glycolic acid. I've used salicylic in the past - great for clogged pores. Keen to try this one!

Mine is the 20% one I think - I just pour a wee bit into my palm, rub my hands together and then rub it all over my face!!! Not very precise! I DO however wait the full half hour after washing my face - need to have the ph right.

I do have a tiny bit of flaking, but nothing the derma flannel hasn't sorted out :) (baa)

I do use a daily face SPF, but that's part of my routine anyhow...

Hi! Sorry, not been on for a few days! Mandelic/Malic is the basis of Mama lotion which gets great reviews. As I understand it, Mandelic is an AHA that has some BHA-like properties so it can dissolve grease too. My skin reacts to salicylic so I use mandelic to de-gunk and for general exfoliation. It works fine, minimal peeling but it does make my skin look brighter and smoother (I think anyway). Glycolic caused more peeling that I could be bothered with, but I'm trying lactic next so will let you know :)
