as the Inventor of the "school run dress" phenomenon

(70 Posts)
Nehru Sat 04-May-13 08:50:45 the days when I did the school run, and lazed about all day in the sun with toddlers pretending it was hard work.. wink

I think for me this would be a serious contender:

loose so you dont sweat - check
sleeves so no bra issues - check
good length - yup
easy to style - check

NB for all detractors
No it isnt " dressing up" for the school run, it is shoving something over "sunning yourself in the garden" clothes

Mrsrobertduvall Sat 04-May-13 08:53:13

Nice colour. But it would be too short on me...I am 6 feet tall.

tribpot Sat 04-May-13 08:53:51

I'm assuming this is either for the school run in sunnier climes than the UK, or for the school run in July?

Nehru Sat 04-May-13 08:54:25

for about 2 days in July wink

IT all started that really hot summer in 2003.
see how old i am?

Nehru Sat 04-May-13 08:54:34

boo mrs rob

sassytheFIRST Sat 04-May-13 08:56:46

I likey.

There are a few days a year when I regret my life as a working mum and wish I was still in the school-run dress phase of my life. That dress would be great over a bikini top and cut offs.

Only a few days though.

Nehru Sat 04-May-13 08:57:39

i know.
we are old timers Sass.

sassytheFIRST Sat 04-May-13 08:59:42

Gimmers, both.

AmberNectarine Sat 04-May-13 09:09:29

I remember that summer. I worked every day in my poxy part-time job at Waitrose pre-uni and had to wear tights.

I liked that dress. Wish I had the knees for it!

LIZS Sat 04-May-13 09:13:41

what do you wear shoe-wise,seems a bit plain?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans Sat 04-May-13 09:23:13

I prefer the round-necked version.

I'd think just sandals on feet would be fine.

I bought this yesterday - v. flattering, not sure if it's a throw-on-over-bikini-and-shorts, however.

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 04-May-13 09:32:12

So funny - have got the navy one on my wishlist ready for discount day. Also want the twill mini and neon shorts.

LadyIsabellaWrotham Sat 04-May-13 09:41:09

Oh I love the scoop neck one, but it doesn't come in the fabulous green sad. I'm a GAP obsessive, but as am old gimmer I normally find their dresses too short - I'll definitely give this one a try in store though - I do need school run dresses in the summer because I have a short turnaround between work and school pickup, and I hate doing the run in work clothes, especially if I'm going to take the DCs straight out to the park.

BHouse Sat 04-May-13 10:05:52

Cripes no, that's waaaaay too short. Are you all pixies?

LadyIsabellaWrotham Sat 04-May-13 10:08:30

I am a pixie, but, yes I'll need to try it on to work out if I can get away with the length - no point in a school run dress if you have to wear leggings/opaque tights underneath it.

sassytheFIRST Sat 04-May-13 10:10:09

Length is fine if your legs are ok shape - remember they'll be lovely and tanned cos you'll have spent all day sunning yourself working hard in the garden.

MrsCampbellBlack Sat 04-May-13 10:16:19

I am a pixie and will be doing as Sassy says too wink

JulieCarp Sat 04-May-13 10:27:00

That would be a tshirt on me ! grin

Nehru Sat 04-May-13 10:28:09

oh amber i am sure your knees are fine.
Im off out today - I will report back

Nehru Sat 04-May-13 10:28:47

ANything else I can look at for anyone?
I am going ALL ALONE will be lovely. I have nothing I want for my birthday next week so I am going to find myself summat

Nehru Sat 04-May-13 10:29:36

LOVE the shorts too.
I so want them ( gap) to do a large version of the neon clutch I got at xmas.

LadyIsabellaWrotham Sat 04-May-13 10:33:59

Yes Amber, your legs have to be good enough for that dress, because I appear to be about 15 years older than you, and I want my knees to be up to the job.

dexter73 Sat 04-May-13 10:34:16

Nice dress. I remember the outrage that someone could buy a school dress just for the school run!
