Faded/ripped/distressed jeans - age limits?

Now I know we hate being told we're too old for something, but at 40 am I too old for ripped jeans?

I really love them, especially the ultra faded ones but but but. I fear my knees are not what they were.

So perhaps I should just go for some very faded/pale blue ones? I am short so don't do boyfriend styles but has anyone got any skinnies/slim fit in that colour that they love and would recommend?

The gap ones look nice but I tried those last year and found the sizing very generous. But being short, I find boyfriends hard to pull off. Also my legs are better than my middle so don't want to hide them.

But ooooh, ripped perhaps not too much for a 40 year old. Just accosted DH with this burning question and he reckons I should give it a go as its just clothes.

So am now going to look in new look who it appears are the best ethical retailer at the cheap end of the market.

what about these ones from ASOS that I have just ordered grin

ASOS Marney

They've got loads of other fits / washes too.

or something like this so knees are covered, if you're worried

They look stupid on anyone. I'm old enough not only to have seen this fashion come and go, but to have worn patched mended jeans from financial necessity as a child.

oh sorry, just seen what you said about boyfriends blush

Friday night home alone with the LO, post happy

Oh I love your first ones Rooty! That's my perfect colour.

Startail - oh I don't think they look stupid on grown ups - but not on a newborn, oh no wink

mrs I have these gap ones and I'm 39. Dh was a bit hmm when I put them on and couldn't understand why I'd bought jeans with holes in them. Dmbl40 also had them.

Just realised someone else has also linked the gap ones. They're not boyfriend, they're straight so much more flattering. They're long though, I need to chop them.

I clicked on this thread as I have been wondering today about whether or not ripped jeans are vaguely fashionable at the moment, purely because one of my favourite pairs has gone at the knee. I am 48 and will probably keep on wearing them for the moment as I like them.

Frankly I don't get this obsession with being 'too old' for clothes. I wear what I like and other people's opinion of it is their problem, not mine.

Very true SGB - but you know, I don't want to scare people. Normally I don't think there is a too old thing really, well within reason.

I'm going to try some though.

And you know, you are now effortlessly totally on trend wink

I think the Gap ones look great - thanks for linking as I might give them a go. I will ignore the small child who asks how I ripped my jeans and if I am going to fix them, too, as per my distressed skinnies.

I'm 40 and I wear my faded, ripped jeans with pride.

I wore them out myself though, not bought that way.
Lots of DIY, painting, etc did that.

Don't let anyone tell you they are so 90s. So what.

Wear whatever you want and feel good in.

I don't think there is an age limit

Ivor - they are generously cut! They also stretch, they fitted me fine when I tried them on but after one day I'm wishing I'd sized down. I'm a large 10 and got 28 smile

There's no age limit, I'm 40 and I've got a couple of pairs. Including those Gap ones linked before (i also sized down and they kept their shape well)
I've also chopped about 3 inches off the length.

But... if you do wear ripped ones, any leg on show needs to be in ok condition.
No hairy bits or varicose veins grin

It's not something I would wear myself (stuck in indigo Levi mode) but I don't think there's an age limit for these, I thought Elle looked fine.

Mind you though I tend to wear fitted knit silk or cashmere dresses a couple of inches above the knee, and when I buy one now I mournfully wonder how many years grace I'll get out of it (I'm in my thirties) so I know where you are coming from!
