Is anyone else really disappointed with Hush?

I absolutely love the look of their clothes on the website and in the brochures, and to be fair I've had a couple of lovely items. But in general the quality seems awful! Some of the jersey stuff in particular looks like old dishrags and yet it's far from cheap. I'm really disappointed as I love this style and thought I'd found somewhere I could shop from regularly - I'd be happy to pay their prices if the quality matched up :(

Hi everyone - MNHQ here. This thread is a little old, and the opinions voiced may be a little out of date. Take a look at this more recent thread to find out what Mumsnetters are saying about Hush right now, and why not take a look at the Mumsnet Hush Edit to see the staples Mumsnetters are recommending this season.

I agree with you. I've had two pairs of their long pyjamas. Both were washed at 30C according to their label but both have shrunk. And one pair, the top and bottom have obviously been made from different bolts of material as the colour is noticeably different. Being a bit slow off the mark, I only realised this after some time had passed, otherwise I'd have sent them back.

The only other thing I ordered was a cotton Henley, which is nice enough but which smells most peculiar - and it's really not me! Washing it seems to make no difference at all.

I've ordered several things and sent them all back. I was swamped in most of it but the last thing I bought was a boyfriend cardi and the SMELL!!!! Holy moly! It looked good but I sent it back because it was just so hideously stinky

I bought several things in the winter sales. All of which i have been happy with.Henley dresses, boyfriend cardigans and a couple of scarves.I've recently ordered the midi and maxi jersey skirts and these are flattering on.However 3 years ago i ordered pyjamas that were awful and some jersey things that were shapeless. This did put me off ordering from them again for quite a while. The henleys did arrive smelling like old tramps but a couple of washes sorted the problem out.I also love the style and the styling ,especially in winter. But i've found you can copy using other brands.Matalan is especially good for finding similar items if you don't mind a bit of a search in a totally non-glamorous shopping destination.

I ordered myself some pjs as a treat and thought they were awful. Huge for the size and really bulky, uncomfortable and unflattering.

I think half of their appeal is the absolutely stunning models they use.

The models may be stunning but they do look a bit drugged.

I've found the quality to be poor too, waistband stitching unravelling after one wash, stitching not finished properly, also too much polyester.

Like the look though.

Way, way overpriced. I can't believe they're now sending out smelly garments!

I think it's really mixed - I've had some amazing hard wearing pjs from there, but a racer back vest fell apart embarrassingly quickly. Agree that the prices would be fine if the quality was consistent.

Glad it's not just me. I think their photo shoots are done very well and the whole feel of the company implies good quality and a bit of luxury but it's sad the products don't reflect that. I'm quite sure places like Matalan do have similar stuff at less silly prices but it's not nearly as nice as getting a lovely tissue wrapped parcel in the post!

My best buys have been the Henley and Amy dresses which I've lived in this winter and I've just received the jersey maxi which is a bit long but so flattering I'm going to keep it and trip over it all the time hitch up the waist a bit.

If its anything like the midi skirt it will migrate north during the day up to your bra line.I am perpetually pulling mine down.It seems to be a problem with all jersey skirts though and not exclusive to Hush.
Yes i do agree getting tissues wrapped packages is a lot nicer.I spend a lot of time in Matalan buying kids uniform/hair accessories etc. and any clothes from there come under the category of household/kids expenditure. Therefore i have become an expert at sniffing out bargains.

I love the look and idea of the relaxed lounge vibe that Hush aims for but the quality is very poor and it's such a shame. The clothes are beautifully put together and styled in the catalogue (although I agree that the models look drugged as they gaze vacantly into the middle distance). They are also v v thin, which makes most things look luxurious and drapey. I bought a few things last year but this year's order went straight back. The t-shirts were so crepey and wrinkled that they looked like they'd been worn already - in fact i did wonder if I'd got some goods that someone else had already rejected.

CambridgeBlue · 03/05/2013 15:11

Well someone else will be getting a few I've rejected judging by today's order! They were very creased already so God knows what they'd look like after a day's wear.

Me. In real life, everything I ordered recently, looked cheap and shapeless (unless of course, I'm cheap and shapeless! Confused!)

I ordered loads of stuff and sent the whole lot back. It looked so comfy and classy on the slender models but looked shite on me. And, it makes me think they don't like the larger lady (I'm a 12 top and a 14 bottom) as there was o room for manoeuvre !

Yes, I am a bit too. I've bought a lot if things from Hush. Some things have been good, e.g. black cords, other things have been rubbish, e.g. jersey blazers. I like the style of their pyjama bottoms, but I hate the sizing - one size is too small, and the other size is too big. And everything has too be cool washed, Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

I'd be more inclined to take them seriously if they went up to size 18.
But that's just me.

I have been trying to look on the hush website for the last couple of days- anyone else having problems viewing it or it just me?

i ordered \link{http://www.hush-uk.com/daywear/dresses/two-tone-sloppy-joe-dress-grey-marl-natural.html\this} a while back and just tried it on again, it looks like a pyjama top Grin and cost so much £££ it's too short to wear as a dress too.

Just looked at their site for first time

What a load of shapeless tat. You ordered from there expecting luxury? Really? The jumpers are wider than they are long. Not a good sign.

Hush is on my list of places not to buy from in the future as most of my purchases I have regretted to one degree or another. Too much poly; doesn't wash well; doesn't drap well; holes; ill fitting; weird colours -- and I only have 6 items.

shopalot · 05/05/2013 21:49

I don't understand why I can't get the site. Even the link doesn't work. Very bizarre.

I like the hush style, but agree it can be replicated at less cost. I have this season jersey maxi skirt - good colour, fabric and length. But the elastic waist band has 'twizzled' so it is all lumpy and bulky. This hasn't happened with my dotty p and new look jersey skirts, which were 1/3 price.

Thank gawd it's not just me... I ordered tons and ended up with just this:

www.hush-uk.com/daywear/jumpers/cocoon-cardi-beige.html

Much nicer when worn with skinnies and not granny slacks FYI poor model...

The Vanessa trousers were truly shocking:

www.hush-uk.com/daywear/trousers/new-vanessa-trousers-concrete.html

Paper thin rayon and looked so creased when I got them out of the box that it was shocking.

It's not just that they don't fit bigger sizes - I am an 8/10 (but more an 8) and it all looked crap on me, too.

CambridgeBlue · 06/05/2013 08:38

Oh bum that jersey maxi skirt was the only thing I really liked - if mine goes 'twizzled' I think I'll be tempted to return it. I saw an identical one for about £15 in DP at the weekend but what I like about the Hush one was the second layer to hold my less than flat tummy in!

Think I am going to be studying the Hush site for style ideas (I do think it looks 'luxury' although often much too shapeless) then replicating from cheaper shops in future.

6 weeks ago I would have been right with you but then I tried the camo joggers ... Not my normal sort of thing at all but I was weirdly attracted to them. And they are fantastic. But partly that's because the S fitted well whereas normally as a 12 the 8-10 S is too small and the M 12-14 is too big. However, other than that everything else has been a let down and either returned or just disappointing, apart from the original 8+ year old PJs, which also were fantastic and still just about going although I think the fabric will wear through next winter ...!

I have been buying Hush clothes for about 3 years now and just love them! Their clothes are so easy and comfy to wear but super stylish at the same time. Don't get me wrong - there are a couple of things have been sent back as I didn't look quite the models in the item ;-) but on the whole I have been very satisfied with the quality and descriptions of items. In fact everything I have bought from Hush has been worn again and again and so I think the value for money is excellent and for me (size 10) the S/M sizing is spot on. Every time a new collection comes out I have to ration what I buy which is the only downside really....

I stock up at the sample sales, and occasionally on eBay, but I'd never pay full price. It all looks great in the pics, but a lot is shapeless and unflattering in real life. Was surprised to see how awful some of it looked, the Vanessa trousers were truly shocking! But some of it is lovely and very cosy.
