Help me pick a new perfume

I've noticed there seems to be some serious frangranistas on MN and thought I'd ask for guidance.

I've been trying to pick a new perfume now since god knows when. I just find everything I pick up is either waaay too sweet or becomes too sweet on me after awhile.

I currently have Sexy 212 (I do like this but am bored of it and also would like something fresher) and Noa Noa which is ok but I'm not overly wild about it.

In the recent past I have owned and loved

molecule oil
kenzo flower
D&G contradiction

In my youth went through a mahoosive Dune phase and loved Mostly Musk from the body shop.

But now I really want something NEW. Fresh, won't overpower the people around me but will last all nice and make me smell goooood!

Am toying with L'Eau d'Cartier and Marc Jacobs Parfum as main runners so far. But cannot seem to get samples to use for a few days. Also the green Balenciaga perfume but same sample issue.

Have sampled Florabotanica but don't like it enough to buy it. Tried Chanel's Cristelle as well but that was way too much for me.

Would love some suggestions as really am just wandering around blind at the moment and making myself sick sniffing too many perfumes in the shops!

Many thanks Flowers

Hi wiltingfast

Try the new range of Lyn Harris perfumes at M&S. There are 5 or 6 different scents, eau de parfum, £25 for 50ml. They all smell heavenly to me, my favourite is La Poudree. Only criticism is that the smell doesn't last brilliantly, but that may just be me.

I also love Kenzo Amour - the pink one.

Of the given alternatives, I like L'Eau de Cartier.
Also explore Hermes Jardins and Jour d'Hermes.
Loved Dune when very young and a serious 'fumehead now.

LOVE victor+Rolf - flower bomb.
Wore it on my wedding day last year.

Alexander McQueen My Queen is nice if you can find it. Slightly spicy and floral, lots of violet and musk in it. Not a girly girl scent, a little more grown up IYKWIM. Lasts well and isn't too expensive either

I used to be loyal to Jo Malone but I've either gone off it or it has changed (Amber & Lavender). I switched to Miller Harris terre de bois perfume and also one of the Lyn Harris for M&S ones (a sandalwoody one) and I love them both.

How about Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil? Fresh, green mango. Well balanced, not overpowering, but excellent staying power. Beautiful for summer Smile.

BTW, it's not one of those sweet, fruity perfumes.

I love Un Jardin sur le Nil! Perfect for summer, light and not too sweet.

What about Le Perla eau de parfum.

I wore this on my wedding day.
I think it's sweet, powdery smelling like Flowerbomb.

Chloe in the green box

A new perfume I really covet is Mary Greenwells 'Lemon' - if it's anything as good as 'Plum' then it will be amazing.

I'm off to have a search and see if I can buy it now.

You could try some of the Guerlain Acqua Allegoria perfumes - they range from floral to citrussy but are all refreshing in their own way.

I love a vetiver scent for summer. There are several but not much in department stores, more of an online thing.

Have you tried reading through some of the Fragantista threads on here? There's loads of info that might help channel your thoughts.

Thanks a milion for all the feedback. I actually did try the hermes jour one and liked it must trt all the other suggestions too. Flowerbomb is not for me I'm afraid, though I must have another sniff to remember why! The green Chloe has such a gorgeous bottle (keep getting suicked in by pretty bottles) but it fades to something v sweet again on me.

What is vetivier? Does it just mean green and woody?

Must learn how to describe these things better Grin

Yes Vetiver is green and woodyish. Can very a lot from scent to scent. The classic is Guerlain Vetiver I think - bit masculine for me. I like the Jo Malone one, which is very crisp yet feminine.

On specialist sites like Luckyscent you can get samples by theme, so a set of 'vetiver' or 'iris' samples, which is quite a nice way to explore a few if you know what sort of note you like.

Vetiver smells woody and a tad smoky.
My favorite vetiver is Encre Noire by Lalique.
Sycomore from the Chanel boutique line is excellent too.
It's used just about everywhere in masculines.

Chloe bottles are lovely but the juices are a bit meh. I have a wool and cashmere detergent that smells exactly like L'Eau de Chloe.
