Hi, i'm looking for a cocktail/on the knee dress for dds school prom. Shes a young looking 16 and not a fan of low cuts or merangue type dresses.
Think she looks a bit like audrey hepburn, cary mulligan that kind of thing.Size 8 5'2"
Shes stumped and what shes looking for isnt in the local shops. Her bests friends are all different sizes but definitvely not elphin.

Any ideas, anyone?

have you tried TKmaxx - or in the shops like Hobbs/L K Bennett - there may also be something like you describe in Karen Millen - have a look on line - google 'dressy shift' or some such term

How about poshgirlvintage if she really likes retrol look or lindybob/lady v.
The Sunday times style section this last weekend had a big spread on cool prom dresses.

Try looking at Asos and warehouse websites . I saw a really pretty lipsy dress on the asos website yesterday and thought oh if only I was 16 again going to a prom! There are se many beautiful dresses around at the mo .

We managed to get a lovely one for 5' 3 Carey M-esque dd2, after a massive thread on here! It's a v plain, black, 50s style so v fitted at the waist and just over the knee. Even better, it was only £20 in the sale in Oasis! Might be worth a peek at their sale rails? Otherwise, Warehouse had a couple of nice ones.

Oh great, there are some lovely dresses, some of them are way over my budget but it's all inspiration. The budget is up to £100 plus shoes, and my dd has been on all the sites you mentioned. Shes in internet shopping heaven!

This looks fairly sleek and unfussy - would depend on the fabric though. What colours does she like?

V nice, providing she isn't at all norky (that was our biggest problem re dd2!).

Something like this would look good on an elfin Audrey Hepburnesq girl.

This is nice, not low cut and prom shape but band on waist looks trendy? www.feverdesigns.co.uk/olivia-prom-dress-navy.html

My daughter is wearing this - so much nicer in the flesh, really lovely quality. Bought a net underskirt for £12 on ebay and some bargain Patty Irregular Choice shoes
