Stupid Question - how small do I have to be to fit 31" waist jeans?

I have been wearing Levi curve jeans for years now as they fit my slightly bizarre shape.. 30 inch waist and 45" hips.. I have been wearing the 31" waist curves and so thought stupidly would fit in 31" diesels as am shaping up (thanks to BIWI!) and so bought some off ebay.

Went to get into them today and cant get them past my mid thighs .. quite depressing .. so need to know what size I need to be to fit into them - I dont wear many trousers as given shape find dresses better and tend to wear 12 to 14s .. I am 5'8" and weigh about 12 stones - clearly quite a pear but am now interested to know what size is a 31" waist - am I stones away from them - what size and weight are you in your 31" jeans? Thanks!

Think mine are a 31" waist and I'm 5'5 and 9.5 stone. But I have to say that I don't have much of a waist, I'd like more definition between my hips and waist tbh.

What is BIWI?

I find jean waist sizes to be completely arbitrary I'd never buy them somewhere where I couldn't return them. I am somewhere between a 31 inch and a 33 inch waist for jeans although i have a 30 inch waist. I am 5ft 6 and 11 st.

I fitted in them at 10 stones, I'm five foot eight as well... But it'll depend on actual shape as well as weight.

I think I'm a 25-26, approx size 8

28 is usually a 10 and I think it's two inches per dress size.

So 31 would be somewhere between a 10 and 12

Tabulahrasa is right it depends on shape, im 5'8 and 10 stone but my jeans are 27-28". I hate jeans shopping- but them back on Ebay and go buy your favourites!

It varies from make to make. I am wearing 30 inch waist jeans from top shop and they are labelled as a twelve and are slightly loose on me.

I have some size tens that fit from next and monsoon but tried on a diff pair of size tens from next today and they were slightly too small.

I am 5 2 and an hourglass shape with big boobs so a 10/12 on bottom half and a 12/14 on too depending where I shop.

My waist is 30 inches, no idea of my hip measurement but I have wide hips.

A size 30 should be a true size 12 - and a size 32 should be a 14, so a size 31 is between 12 and 14.

But as others have pointed out jeans vary a lot. I am usually a 26 but sometimes a 25 or a 27.

My waist is a 30 but need a 32 to go over my thighs because I have a lot of muscle bulk on the front thigh from fell running, genetics and skiing. I am 9.5 stone and 5'8 So as they say up there ^^^depends on body shape.

I've tried diesel jeans several times and have found them either small or way too narrow on thighs and hips.

I am the same height and weight as you OP, size 12, 30" jeans from Next, and have never, ever got a pair of diesels to fit. Even when I was a stone lighter.

I'm a size 10/12, 29" waist and 42" hips and wear a 30 jeans in most brands. In Levi curve, NMDJ, Next and Gap, I need a 28.

Diesel jeans are teeny tiny. Not for pear shaped people IMO.

I would also say, in theory a small size 14, however, diesels do fit smaller in thighs though so I think you would prob need to be a size 12 to get into them. They're a depressing brand!

I'm 5'10 and 10st 10lb and am size 12-14 size 31 It is about a small 14. I am size 30 in GAP.

I did try a pair of jeans in TK Maxx though which were allegedly size 32 and they were v tight, not sure what make though.

I never go on waist size for jeans as my waist is 12" smaller than my hips, and most jeans aren't cut for womanly curves. My waist is 28" but I need to look at 30" waist jeans for them to fit my hips. I always have to get curvy style jeans to avoid waist gape.

Oh Thanks for this - sounds like diesels are not related to reality - or my shaped reality - I just thought 31" would mean same across all ranges - how wrong I was! Weirdly when I held them against my Curve 31", they did not seem very much smaller but putting them on quickly disproved this..

I will take the advice here I think and get rid as they are currently mocking me from the bottom of my wardrobe and I think shall head to Next as per BikeRunSki

I carry all my weight in my thighs so clearly unless I lose a lot of weight and reshape (yeah right) looks like diesels are not the make for me

Again thanks for everyone for your responses!

I've had some weird changing room shockers with TK Maxx jeans. My private justification theory is that some jeans end up in there because the wrong size labels have been sewn in.

Yet my favourite jeans ever are from TK Maxx

I am between 12-14 and my best fitting jeans are 31'' waist.

Otherwise I squeeze into a 12 or have a loose 14.

I used to buy diesel jeans when I was 16 and a size 8 and they were great then, but I seem to remember still having to buy the largest available size

Depends on cut and make

29 in H&M skinnies
28 in straight let Levis from TK Maxx

Size 8-10 and I'm about 5 foot 6, just under 9 stones
