Thanks to you wonderful Mnetters I have a fab winter coat. I now need to repeat that success for Spring / Autumn. I must face up to the fact that it does rain quite a bit and get something waterproof rather than a brolly plus denim jacket. I could do with something smartish that I could wear for work. I'm a teacher and often have to dash across the backyard in pouring rain. I'm size 10/12 but because I have a bad, sticky out back often need a size 14 in coats. I like the idea of a trench coat style but always look huge in them. Was wondering about this but am concerned it might be a bit frumpy? What do you think and any more suggestions please!!!

For me, a waterproof coat would have to have a hood.

The coat you've linked is not awful but to be honest, I'd expect to see it on an older lady. There's some very nice shower proof macs around in places like New Look at the minute. I can't find the one I bought online but it was from New Look and is generously sized, comfy (I have scoliosis, affects right at the top of my spine so right where coats and jackets sit) and is definitely heavy shower proof.

Oooh thanks OLL - will have a look at New Look. Hadn't thought of there. I also have scoliosis - nice to know there's someone else out there!

I got a nice green one from fat face last wk. it might not be smart enough for work though. Can't link as I'm on phone I'm afraid.

I bought the Merrell Wakefield unlined last year and it looks new, completely water proof, fantastic quality. Think it's been replaced by a similar style. You can't go wrong .

aha, well my beautiful winter coat is a Merrell, Dry White. And has been wonderful. Thanks, will go and look

After years of search and having wasted £££ on cheaper, useless spring coats with tiny hoods, I have now succumbed to a proper mac for British weather:
It's great, but I needed to size up!

I started a similar thread not that long ago.
I bought the Emily parka from Target Dry in the end. Not had much chance to test it, as its been too cold, but it did OK when we got caught out in the rain coming back from nursery on Fri. Not a great range of colours tho.

I've also got the wakefield on the basis of the winter thread!
