Child's long waterproof winter coat

I expect this quest, like the women's one has been started many times but this time it will succeed or goddamit I am emailing every fecking manufacturer weekly until they produce.
Any future communication will go like this:
Dear so called outdoor wear manufacturer,
My children have a half hour walk to school. If it rains they need waterproof coats. The coats need to reach below the knee or their knees, skirts and tights get soaked. What makes you think it is acceptable for children to be soaked from the hips down?
Don't offer me waterproof trousers because when children get to school they do not have special places for drying off trousers. Also we really don't want to carry trousers with us every day in case it rains when we can simply don one coat.
The coat needs to be warm too because it gets cold in winter in Britain.
It should have a hood, to keep the rain off their heads. The hood must have a sensible, comfortable way of staying up. A storm flap bit at the neck would be good too.
It should not cost the earth. Children grow so I am not going to pay hundreds for a coat that will fit for two years maximum.
do you think you can manage that? You twats.

I feel your pain OP. It's worse for boys though - there are no coats at all for them.

Hawise that coat is not below the knee and is only water repellent.
Wallison yes I can see that it must be worse. It's barely acceptable for boys to wear long coats anyway. Such crap.

DD has an old Muddy Puddles rainflex waterproof which exactly fits your requirements. They don't have anything exactly similar available now but maybe try ebay? Also have a look at their website. Loads of sale stuff. A lot of it comes up short but it is properly waterproof and doesn't have to look too outdoorsy (if that is a consideration) - the original jacket might be a close fit to what you need, it is at least long at the back to protect against splashing. The sizes come up very large in my experience.

You could also drop them an e-mail explaining your predicament and see what they say. Maybe leave off the twats bit.

Agree with Po about getting a slightly larger size. It comes to to the middle of dds knees and has kept her dry through some pretty heavy showers.

DS1 (4YO) has a turquoise version of this and it is fab. It is long on him so just past his knees, it has high vis bits on it and it is water off a duck's back, literally. We bought the fleece to go inside it forthe winter and it certainly worked.

I feel your pain TheConstantLurker and may have posted something similar in the past. I gave up! The nearest I could find were old-fashioned Gaberdine macs but even then they didn't have hoods and cost an absolute fortune (found some on sites that were catering to Big Name Public Schools).

DD1 has TEAL this. She's 6 and quite small for her age and the 7-8 comes over her knees. I sized up as it is slightly fitted at the waist. It doesn't have a warm lining unfortunately but there's plenty of room to layer up underneath.

Hatley raincoats are great. Buy one several sizes too big and roll the sleeves if necessary. Plenty of room for warm layers underneath.

Damn lost a long post replying to individuals!
Muddy puddles aren't doing a long coat just trousers.
Jackets even in big sizes are never going to be long enough. Especially on leggy 9 year olds.
Water repellent is not good enough and yes we have tested that assertion.

That one looks pretty good Hawise maybe a bit short and quite expensive. I can't get your link to load it's crashing my iPad but have googled it.
Am just hovering over the Kazar one mejon linked to. Have found. 7-8 on eBay. Would it be warm enough all winter with a Fleece under?

What size/age do you need Constant? DD1 really is small - 0.4th centile for height last time she was measured and the 7-8 has room to grow into. If your DD is nearer 'normal' (!) then the bigger size might be better? Are you anywhere near a Mountain Warehouse store - amazingly we do have one (don't have much else though) so I was able to try before I bought and there were quite a few left in our local one a few weeks ago.

I know not what you wanted to hear but anyway,my ds is 10 and has always walked to school.
He has very light waterproof overtrousers that roll up to nearly nothing,he keeps them in school bag everyday so can use if needed.

Oncwe he gets to school he just hangs them up on his coat peg over his coat,no drying facilities needed tbh,they are waterproof so tend to dry really quickly.
