Come on, who has them?! Or would secretly want them?!

I'm 25 and am having the impressions taken or my invisalign on Monday. Only mild crowding of bottom teeth but always said that when I get married I would have a perfect smile for the photos and now that dp are talking about getting hitched I decided to bite the bullet and go for it.

Has anyone else had them and got any words of wisdom re tips for treatment? I'm a teacher so the thought of standing in front of 30 kids with even a minuscule lisp is worrying even though they won't see the brace!

I'm seriously considering it, have seen a 'treatment coordinator', but not yet paid for the next step- impressions x-rays etc. not sure whether to go for '6 month smile' or 'Invisalign'. Would love to get some feedback on the impact of each treatment as I have to present to large audiences quite frequently.

I currently have an inman aligner. 2 weeks into 12 for top teeth crowding.

I have had 6 month smile fixed braces top and bottom for past 11 months. Getting the bottom ones off in a week, and the top ones will be off within 2 more months max I would have thought.

Teeth are loads better, although not perfect like you would get with veneers, I guess though this is better as they will obviously look more natural and should suit my face etc, but I do love the 'perfect' look that veneers give! I am getting whitening as part of the deal, total price £2500 and I have been able to pay this in interest free installments.

Its seemed a looooooong time and for much of the time they have looked a bit yellow as they discolour really easily. If I was looking to start all over again I would seriously consider getting metal fixed braces instead to avoid the discoloutarion issue.

I am a teacher too and the kids definitely noticed but apart from a few whispered comments and one or two asking me about them outright, it hasnt been an issue. They have given me a very slight lisp but nothing to worry about. If poss I would probably have got them done during a week off to give me time to adjust.

I am going for a 2nd opinion having seen one dentist who said Invisalign would take 18-24 months for me and cost around £3K.

I am now going to see an orthodontist who does everything including clear ceramic braces, Inman, Invisalign etc.

I have moderate -severe upper overcrowding but having done an Inman 'quiz' online it seems they would work for me.

Can't understand why anyone would go for Invisalign taking 2 yrs if Inman take a few weeks. Confused

Is there something about Inman I don't know- like lots of pain?

*Derby_ scuse me being thick but why is a # 6 month smile' taking 11 months? is the 6-month thing a brand and not a timescale? why did you have discolouration?

Almost finished with my invisaligns.

I didn't get a lisp at all. It did hurt to talk sometimes on the first day of each new set.

I'm very pleased with the results but didnt enjoy the process.

good luck with them :)

I had Invisalign and most people were none-the-wiser during my treatment.

Mine were a lot of hassle. Dentist insisted on redoing all of my fillings before we even started, then I had to have a few teeth filed/ground to create gaps for the movements, which I hated. Some of my upper teeth required rotations and that did hurt. Once I became pregnant, luckily at the very end of the treatment, I couldn't tolerate the liners in my mouth as they made me gag.

I was given sage advice by a stranger (bizarrely an NYPD cop who did notice mine, having had them himself) and that was to have a retainer, or everything would return to how it was and the effort would be wasted. I now have a retainer wire behind my front-upper teeth which has to be renewed every 2-3 years but is otherwise unobtrusive.

TBH if I could have done it again I'd have gone for train-tracks and done it faster, but that is a view from the other side of having children, when my looks feel less important to me. At the time I had treatment I was in an important managerial and customer-facing role.

I would be suprised at result s in "weeks " in an adult missbopeep unless very very little movement needed. Our teeth are harder to move the older we get and unless a retainer is worn for quite a while after they just move back.

I haved had braces twice as adult ..lowers at 32 and upper plus surgery at 52.

Only had lisp for first week or two and yes, teens tended to give me a second look or two when they noticed..but I not a teacher so not quite so much in contact with teens..oh and I had train traks lol

Missbop - what's Inman?! I'm going for a 3D teeth presentation following a X-ray and photos to see what the finished result would be for invisalign, incognito or Damon clear on Monday but also penciled in to have my impressions taken. I'm still not 100% sure what route to take.

www.inmanaligner.com/

I don't know how it works in weeks- just going by the website here.

With Invisalign I just don't know if I could bear a mouth full of plastic for nearly 2 years.

Also- the dentist I am thinking of seeing charges £145 for a consultation - including X rays and impressions- but other where I live are free- but they only offer traditional braces and Invisalign. I wish there was a middle way- have a consultation to discuss options but not have impressions etc.

I don't know how inman works so quickly either but it is working. I could see a difference after just 4 days

You need to wear it a min of 16 hours a day or a max of 20.

It is difficult to speak with it in so I don't wear it at work but then I am an estate agent so talk all day. If you have a quiet desk job then it is easy to get the 20 hours in. Wearing overnight is easy too.

As for pain none other than the first few days.

My dentist only charged a consultation fee if I chose not to proceed. My aligner is costing £1100 including retainer.

Report
missbopeep · 14/04/2013 08:52

Thanks Crutch- the charge is waived if you go ahead so it's almost the same thing! That price sounds very reasonable. Is the Inman behind the teeth or what? Is it a bit like a lingual brace?

Do you have one top and bottom?

My lower jaw is not too bad and I have space there from extractions years ago- so think those teeth would move very quickly- but the top jaw is overcrowded with 3 teeth overlapping .

Thanks for th link bopeep... I can see you how it works and that that it could be quicker although it seems to be suited to less complex teeth issues.

It does say that long termor permanent retainer wear will be needed and that was the bit I wondered was not recogised....the problems wre not totally fixed in weeks just teeth might be in better place. The teeth need to be held so we all still need something in our mouths for a heck of a lot longer.... as long as folk know that its ok lol

Upper jaw only. There is a bit on a spring that sits behind you teeth. There are then wires attached to a plate that sits on the roof of your mouth. The wires go on your back teeth and there is a bit of plastic over the front of your teeth. The front bit can make you look like you have a fat lip!

The dentist on fitting will put a bit of filling behind one of your front teeth to stop it slipping. It will be removed once complete.

There are some really good diaries on YouTube.

Report
Crutchlow35 · 14/04/2013 09:21

The makers of your aligner will also send you a video of what your end result will be like also before they make the plate up so you are sure of what you are doing.

Thanks!

Tazzle almost everyone I know who has had a brace of any kind has a retainer fitted, or they wear a retainer once a week or so at night. In fact I don't know of any adults who don't have this.

I know several people who have all had braces into their 30s. Every single one and me to be included will need a retainer.

I had Damon fixed braces fitted at 33 for 13 months, totally delighted with the result, my teeth are perfect.

Even though you could see them I'm pleased I didn't go for Invisalign as the night retainer I wear now is the same thing and I can't wait to take it out as soon as I wake up so would have hated having to wear all day.

'6 months smiles' is the brand name. 6 months is the average treatment time, but anything between 4-9 months is normal.

Unfortunately for me I am one of the ones who has needed them on for longer. For the first 3 months I had a lot of breakages & problems so I think I have taken longer because things didn't go very smoothly at first - but this is only my theory the dentist has never really said why I have needed longer

Oh and the discolouration is caused by food & drink. Curry is a no-no unless I want yellow-looking teeth until my next appointment but other foods still discolour as well so unless you avoided anything strongly coloured to eat, I think they'd definitely discolour on anyone.

Derby I'm confused over Damon because in this website they look really obvious like traditional braces.
