following the Avon, animal testing issues, what are you replacing it with? I'm getting to the end of the last bottle I'll buy of it, great as it has been for my skin, but clueless as to what to get next.

marks place
I've heard good stuff about Roche Posay but I'm still a bit flummoxed at which of the range to use.

Do you still like the hot cloth thing? People on here have recommended No7 and Superdrug own brand versions of it if so. I found it too harsh, it gave me little red veins around my nose. I've switched to Avene gel splash-off cleanser followed by La Roche Posay Cicaplast moisturiser and am blown away by how good it is. Love both cleanser and moisturiser so much. But I think skincare is v personal as to what method you like to cleanse with and what you want from a moisturiser.

I replaced it with extra virgin olive oil. It's been 6 weeks now and for the first time I've not had the cystic acne / hormonal spots that I usually get on my chin every month. My skin seems a lot happier in other ways too, I'm totally converted!

I am definitely a convert to hot cloth things, yes. I am never inclined to do my face if 'proper' (splashy) washing is involved, but don't feel properly clean from cleansing and toning without some water contribution. Superdrug are non-animaly, I'll go have a quick browse at their site...

Is it this? Great reviews; lots of former Liz Earlers.

Yes think its that one. There's also a vit e one which a lot of people seem to like too.

What about liz Earle? Is that not supposed to be the best?

Eve lom Cleanser. Pricey but worth it. Comes with a cloth!

Bragadocia · 09/04/2013 22:29

Oops, googling 'Eve Lom BUAV' has come up with other almost identical MN threads! That Superdrug one has a lot of fans - I am definitely going to buy it. I really hope it works out; it's such an arse when you find products that suit you, and then they cancel it or change their ethics, or whatever, and you have to start hunting again.

I'm a big fan of La Roche Posay. I've tried most of the moisturisers but am currently using the Effaclair M as I was suffering from a few under the skin spots.

Emma hardie.

Pricey but lovely. Makes me feel really clean.

C&P just stopped being a 'wow' product for me

I've been using the Superdrug one now for 6 months. Just as good as LE and half price at the moment. The Vitamin E one doesn't feel as rich and left my skin dry and tight so better for oiler skins.

The day cream is also pretty good and has SPF 15 too. I've gradually phased out the LE stuff as it was getting way too expensive and TBH there are lots of great products to be found in Boots, Superdrug or even Aldi!

Im changing to super drugs when my boots hot cloth runs out, all thier own brand stuff is BUAV approved.

Sainsburys is too.

So if the superdrug cleanser is good what about a replacement moisturiser to liz Earle? Is the SD one any good or is there another alternative?

Feel like I've missed the boat here a bit but has LE suddenly started animal testing?

The SP Vitamin E oil is excellent for nighttime. The day one isn't amazing but is absolutely fine for the price. I've bought the Boots Vitamin E day one today to try, as it was on offer. Will let you know.
C&P gave me spots, and (fingers crossed) I very rarely get them generally.

I too used the Avon one and love using the muslin cloths. After trying a few different cleansers, I absolutely love the No7 Melting Gel Cleanser - goes on like an oil, I massage it all over my face and then wipe it off using the hot muslin cloth. Absolutely lovely, and I really like washing my makeup off every night [saddo]!! FWIW, I tried the No7 hot cloth cleanser but it left my skin feeling very "plasticky" so I gave up on it.

(Liz Earle is owned by Avon now ...)

Liz Earle owned by Avon? No way! When did that happen?what does that mean? So is the OP referring to liz Earle when she was talking about her Avon cloth cleanser?

I like the Sanctuary hot cloth cleaners - think and creamy if you like that sort of thing.

Been a LE user for years. Tried SuperDrug and No7 products and both made me dry and spotty. Not a desirable combination.

If LE stops production due to Avon going bust, I'm going for the Eve Lom version.

Switched from Liz earle to coconut oil and a hot cloth a few months ago, haven't looked back. Sometimes I add in a teaspoon of caster sugar to exfoliate and it does a great job and although some say it can clog pores I haven't had this problem at all.

Liz Earle was taken over by Avon last year some time. Avon are not cruelty free because they sell in China which insists on testing cosmetics on animals. I used to be a Liz Earle devotee, but have stopped using it due to the animal testing issue. I can recommend Balm Balm coconut cleanser which is BUAV approved. It's a liquid rather than a balm, but it's lovely. Cheaper than Liz Earle too.

Thanks for the update. Feel quite sad about thy actually. Not just from the animal testing pov but felt LE was a home grown company I could trust.

I like the Super Facialist Rose Cleanser.

Does this mean that LE will be sold door to door now?
Still think it's a shame that LE have sold out to Avon with their slightly tacky reputation.
Think I will be reverting back to Neal's Yard rose balm - expensive but lasts ages and great results.
