Who epitomises French Elegance/Chic for you......

I am thinking of the more <ahem> mature lady rather than the skinny jeans/messy hair/converse look that is sometimes viewed as 'French'.

I am putting forward Valerie Trierweiler and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Who else do you think is inspirational in this respect?

Ines de la fressange.

here she is in action:

Juliette Binoche for me. A great actress in everything she does - and much older than you'd think...sigh with envy.

Even though she's not French I think Audrey Hepburn is the epitome of this look.

Emmanulle Alt more recently and Audrey Tatou.

Francoise Hardy/ Jane Birkin/Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kristin Scott Thomas

Also Isabel Marant, mostly her attitude to growing older, that sort of devil may care vibe about her.

Juliette Binoche, Ines de la Fressange and Audrey Tatou.

Never understood the Jane Birkin appeal. Although beautiful, she doesn't seem to evoke the French 'thing' for me at all, as well as not being remotely French..........and as for style, she appeared to wear as few clothes as possible (IYKWIM), so apart from the occasional pic of her wearing flares and a plain tee, I just can't see it.

Audrey Fleurot from Spiral

My absolute favourite aspirational redhead.

AmberNectarine Mon 08-Apr-13 18:52:50

Carine Roitfeld

I think Sandrine Kiberlain shows another, more relaxed side to French chic. Still gorgeous and chic, and clothes hang beautifully on her.

AuldAlliance Mon 08-Apr-13 18:55:29

Isabelle Huppert.

Berenice marlohe, from skyfall. And as a previous poster said, Audrey Hepburn.

MarshaBrady Mon 08-Apr-13 18:59:13

Audrey Tautou - not the quirky Amelie thing, but the Chanel advert

Clémence Poésy / Emanuelle Alt / Isabel Marant

All quite different.

MarshaBrady Mon 08-Apr-13 18:59:31

Oh and Françoise Hardy.

sue52 Mon 08-Apr-13 19:00:03

Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Adjani

Carine Roitfeld.

I covet her eyebrows.

I have a girl crush on Marion cotillard. She is French personified.

HappyGirlNow Mon 08-Apr-13 20:14:59

I second Marion Cotillard - she just looks amazing all the time..

Princess Caroline of Monaco - no fillers, Botox or facelifts. Looks every one of her 56 years and gorgeous and elegant.

Agree with Audrey Hepburn.
