Have namechanged. That's how bad it is ffs.

OK so I should own up that I went to Supercuts BUT I have been to several Supercuts before & it's been fine. I asked for one length cut, indicating a good couple of inches down from my shoulders for length (was down to middle of my back) and then said could I have some layers around the front.

I'm short sighted, I took off my glasses. Idiot.

Now my hair, which I wanted a couple of inches down from my shoulders, is just skimming them. It's longer at the back and then from behind my ears it gradually comes up in length around the front. It doesn't suit me, it doesn't suit my hair, it's just horrid.

I can just about scrape it back into a pony tail at the back of my neck, or into one of those bulldog clip things a bit higher - but still I'll have straggly bits around my face. I look awful, it's not a nice haircut and it definitely doesn't suit me. This is how I will look till about September.

I'm too embarrassed to go back in, I complained to the hairdresser at the time but I was upset and people were looking. I'm going to phone the manager today. I can't go back there and be stared at publicly again, there's nothing that can be done with it till it grows out.

Thanks for listening. Recommendations for good hats appreciated (though I look crap in those too).

Sad

Sounds like a haircut I had at a Vidal Sasson in the city of London a couple of years back. Told the hairdresser I was getting married and was growing my hair- he took three inches off. But the weird thing was he kept giving the colourist furtive glances and sniggering! Anyway that's not going to help you. I'd go back - but get a refund - and grow your hair. Can you do anything with kirby or sleeper grips to give the impression your hair is in an updo. That's what I did with mine. Cut was in June and by August I had enough to put back in a ponytail.

You have my heartfelt sympathies, I have been there and unfortunately more than once - or twice.

First thing you have to bear in mind - it is honestly not as bad as you think. I promise. My hair was such an unmitigated disaster one time (dreadful cut and then I home dyed it and it ended very badly..) I didn't see how it would be possible to go to work the next day. I cried on the tube. When I got in - no one even noticed. I actually had to say to my friend who worked on the desk next to me - you're just trying to be nice aren't you? She didn't know what I meant, I pointed to my hair and she said oh you've dyed it haven't you! All that angst.

I'm afraid all you can do is have it cut again. Don't go back there, just get your money back off them, if necessary go to the salon and stand there embarrassing them into it.

Then go to another hairdresser, explain what happened (they are well used to seeing people cry over this) and take their advice. From what you describe, I'd say you need to come up shorter and have long layers on top - you'd be surprised at how long and soft your cut can look when it is longer layers at the front, even if it feels short at the back. Then as it grows it will grow into a lovely length with long layers to give some body to it.

Chin up, go get your new haircut then straight to make up counter for a new make up to suit the new you x

Thank you. I'm really sorry you've had this too, I bet loads of people have had their hair fucked by a bad hairdresser.

CareerGirl that's just awful, for your wedding! Shock Did you pay/go back for a refund, do you like how you look in your wedding pictures?

And thanks GeneHuntsMistress, for saying it's probably not that bad. Probably other people will say that to me, but they'll be being kind and I still really hate it.

I can't possibly have it cut shorter, I don't have the face or body for shorter hair. Blush There isn't enough length at the front for long layers. I don't want to be in a pony tail at Christmas.

I just can't go back there, I really can't. I'm too embarrassed, they'll go Oh it's fine. At the time I said to the woman, 'I said I wanted it to here.'

Forget about the "non-problem" - in the great scheme of your life it's a massive upset to you right now, so don't feel guilty on top.

You're going to have to man up I'm afraid, I know it's hard for you right now but really the woman was just trying it on and counting on your upset and embarrassment in order to avoid a refund and get youto go away - which worked. But if you call them now, ask to,speak to the manager, tell them exactly what happened - you were abundantly clear as to how much to take off and you have had x amount more taken and you are NOT happy and expect a full refund forthwith. You'll get it, really. Ok you will the have Togo down there to get it but the hard work will be done over the phone.

Then go to accessorize and buy some lovely hairbands and clips. And then coffee and cake to celebrate your assertiveness.

Actually this sounds like a nice day, can I come. I love a good bossing around of bullies. Then shopping and cake - what's not to love Wink

I've had this happen and went to 'Sally' and bought clip in extensions exactly the same colour as mine. They look completely real and will solve your problem.

I can't man up because I'll go red and stutter and I'm weak. I can't afford to buy clip in extensions, or hairclips and hair bands and coffee and cake. Blush

But if I could I would stand you a big cup of the beverage of your choice and a stonking great cake.

Thanks

I will syphon in more coffee and call them after lunchtime, when I'm on the outside of a sandwich. Maybe that will boost my courage.

Get a recommendation from a friend for a decent local hairdresser, who will take the time to listen to you and try their best to sort you out. That's the thing with Vidal Sassoon, Toni&Guy, Supercuts et al, even if they piss you off there's plenty of other customers waiting behind you happy to use them on the strength of the brand.

My local hairdresser turned my hair burgundy by accident. But because I'm a regular customer they tried their best to tone it down, then kept the salon open late the next night so they effect a permanent repair. And they didn't charge anything all, which saved me £70! They piled me with a load of hair masks and serums to take home as well.

Anyway, in the meantime, get some kirby grips and pin the front sections of your hair back so it's sort of a half up-do. Like this. It obviously won't look as nice as you don't have a hairstylist at your disposal, but you get the jist.

I now feel woefully inadequate after google imaging "Kate Middleton hair".

Cant open your link craic dealer - hot linking restricted, can you post the link unconverted, please?

You are right about a decent local hairdresser - that's what I'll do. In September. Really can't a) afford and b) too short for any cutting till then!

Good service from your local hairdresser. Smile

Meh, similar problem here. I've just had a free student hair cut at a local salon. To be fair the length and layers are fine, and one side at the front is great. It's just the other side which is a bit butchered and wonky. Think I will be using a lot of kirby grips.

Oh poor you!
This happened to me though I went to a really 'good' (apparently) salon: also before my wedding...... they took about 6 inches off, and as I had an up style I'm mind for my wedding I couldn't do it...
I left the salon in shock, without saying anything either, I walked home, and really surprised myself by collapsing in tears as soon as I was home. I sat on the stairs and howled. My SIL was staying with us, but I was shameless, just felt so so upset.

What I did was cover my hair in conditioner immediately! It seemed to clam down all the horrible layers they'd hacked into it, and I wore clips and an Alice band thing to keep the tufts at bay.

Be kind to yourself about complaining, and if you can't go about it yourself, contact a consumer call centre: they're very nice, and give advice about how to get your money back. If you're feeling completly and utterly traumatised, you could ask the consumer centre for a free legal advice consultation, to see where you stand about suing them, they might even ring on your behalf, if you explain you are in floods of tears and can't.

You have my sympathies!

Horrible we hadn't set a date for the wedding but had planned to get married in the December (2010) as it turned out we didn't tie the knot till last year and my hair looked great. The hairdresser in question was emigrating to Australia but even so I'd never go back again (Vidal Sasson in Ave Maria lane). Toni & Guy at Liverpool st station sighs best - open early and late and I always use 20% off vouchers to bring the price down. I only get my hair cut 3/4 times a year so is worth saving up for. Your hair is probably better than you think. And even if not it will grow out.

I too had my hair butchered by super cuts when I was a late teen and stopped letting my mum come with me to the hair dresser... Grin

Agree go to a decent salon (after absolutely bollocking the other place and getting a refund... Threaten them with trading standards) and explain what's happened and see if then can do something.

I feel for you as I've been there and it's awful....it will grow back however.

Buy some cheap brewers yeast tablets off the Internet and take them everyday, I'm sure it helped me when I decided going from waist length hair to a chin length bob was a sensible option. because I am obviously unhinged

I asked for the cut so I only had myself to blame.

Dh called me Bob for 6 months.

Jeysus fluffy, that is some change. Your DH is a bit of a naughty wag! Not sure i could have joked about mine, they layers were truly hideous, and stuck out all over the place like wurzel gummage, but yes to the skin hair nails formulations.

Some patients I work with are fed through a tube into the stomach called a peg feed. The liquids pumped into them are loaded with vitamins and minerals as well as fat, protein and carbohydrates.

They all have the most wonderful quality toe nails, I always say its all the vitamins, they look much better nourished than the other residents.

Yes, Dh is indeed a Wag. Or bastard as I recall calling him when he kept calling me Bob.
