Your favourite smells that are NOT perfumes...

I am getting more and more discerning with the smell of products in general, not just perfume, and I think they contribute just as much to your "smell". I love the smell of Aussie volumising shampoo and conditioner, and I have an abahnabody lotion that I love that smells of. Honeysuckle. I love layering on lots of lovely smells. I have yet to find a clothes washing detergent that I truly love though. What are your favourite non-perfume smells? smile

colditz Tue 02-Apr-13 01:19:45

Fresh,y cut grass, roses, the sea side, and other peoples chips.

I adore the smell of bleach! It just makes me feel clean.
Sweet peas - smelling them always reminds me of growing up as we had loads in our garden.
Cinnamon - I just do.

EMUZ Tue 02-Apr-13 01:31:06

Anything citrus
(No laughing!) surf liquid towie blush
J&J bedtime baby bath
L'oreal ever pure (rosemary and mint one)
Baby powder
Any wax tarts from candlewick greens (I burn them every day)

I could go on forever!!!

EMUZ Tue 02-Apr-13 01:31:56

abbyfromoz Tue 02-Apr-13 01:33:43

My DD's breath (i smell her dummy sometimes)
Lavender oil (i wear it as perfume)

janji Tue 02-Apr-13 01:39:35

Fresh laundry
Summer breeze and freshly cut grass
Johnson s baby shampoo
Fish and chips at the seaside
Fried onions on bonfire night
Fresh rain on grass

Startail Tue 02-Apr-13 01:41:09

Lavender, it grows by my garden steps.
Rosemary, thyme and herbs in general, that smell you get once you step into the scrub land in Majorca in summer.

Christmas scent, orange, cinnamon, making Christmas cake and grating in nutmeg.

Real old fashioned roses.

Startail Tue 02-Apr-13 01:41:59

I actually also like fireworks

Startail Tue 02-Apr-13 01:44:07

Oh don't, we were watching an old QI and Jo brand was talking about smoking a pipe and I was remembering my dear grandpa too!

abbyfromoz Tue 02-Apr-13 01:55:24

Can i add SPF and coconut oil? (mmm holidays!!)

EarlGreyTeabag Tue 02-Apr-13 02:11:10

Laundry fresh from the washing line outside.
Pipe smoke (memories of grandad again).
Coffee jar freshly opened (even though I don't drink coffee).
Satsumas (remind me of childhood Christmases).
My cat's fur - smells of wood smoke for some reason!

MamaMimi Tue 02-Apr-13 02:28:16

A couple of my favourite smells are mushrooms being fried and warm/hot milk. I'm not food obsessed or anything grin

crazy8 Tue 02-Apr-13 02:55:27

Tarmac and wet plasterblush

blackcurrants Tue 02-Apr-13 03:11:04

Pine sap on cones
My boys just after their bath, i think its the combination of baby powder, lotion, and their hair (Burt's bees or the purple j&j)
Dh. He doesn't even wear aftershave, he just smells so good.
Men wearing lush's 'cosmetic lad'cream.
Wheat fields on a really hot day (childhood)
Hay bales, saddle soap (as above)

daffodils Smell cheerful but snowdrops smell the best,.like tiny pieces of honey and perfection, only not cloying at all. If someone could successfully bottle the smell of snowdrops everything, and I mean everything in my life would just cease while I sniffed joyfully!

IsaacCox Tue 02-Apr-13 06:44:49

Most of the above plus:
Sun tan/after sun lotion- just smells of holidays
Fruits esp strawberries
Almost any food that's cooking
Logs burning on the fire
Dried slices of oranges
The air when I'm horse riding
The stables
Pipe smoke too
The smell of spring/summer/autumn/winter
I think my favourite may be freshly cut grass

CheerfulYank Tue 02-Apr-13 06:57:21

My DH smelling of Irish Spring soap
DS after his bath
Sawdust and coffee and Dad
Since my third trimester started I've become obsessed with the scent of my Neutrogena face wash...I always wash my face twice in the shower now and just sit there inhaling it!

CheerfulYank Tue 02-Apr-13 06:59:19

Oh and my parents' sauna! It's -30 at least in the winter there, and after steaming up I stand outside in a towel getting colder and colder, looking at all the stars and smelling the woodsmoke and the snow and the hot cedar benches inside. It's lovely.

buttercrumble Tue 02-Apr-13 07:30:54

Fish and chips here too

vanillavelvet Tue 02-Apr-13 07:37:33

Freshly baked bread and coffee

HarrySnotter Tue 02-Apr-13 08:09:28

Lots of the above smells

Cigars - take me back to when I was about 4 sitting at my Grandpa's feet.

Vanderbilt perfume - reminds me of my mum. I have a bottle that was on her dressing table, it's gone all dark and smells awful now but I could never part with it.

Fishermans friends - reminds me of my dad.

Fish n chips.

Freshly baked bread.

A casserole cooking in the winter.

That 'spring' smell you get when the weather starts to turn a bit nicer.

Ditto for Autumn.

revolvenotevolve Tue 02-Apr-13 08:23:36

<backs out of room quietly>

elQuintoConyo Tue 02-Apr-13 08:28:09

Post-sex sweaty balls.

<lowers tone... but I do love it and you did ask>

Plus most of above:
Sun-dried washing
Freshly washed DS
Milton (used to puke a lot as a kid and it reassures me)
Freshly made rosemary shortbread (ie mine)
The smell of a foreign country when the plane doors open!

blackcurrants Tue 02-Apr-13 12:25:54

I just snorted tea onto my desk, elQuinto - ta! grin

SanctiMOMious Tue 02-Apr-13 12:29:20
