I have decided to treat myself to a new handbag but have no idea which brands are good or not!
Is Radley a good make? I quite like the little doggy on them!

Those are cute. Well made and good leather. If that's the type you like Risk in John Lewis are good too?

Sorry - don't get it either why would you want a dog on your handbag???

Gallifrey, all depends on how much you want to spend. Radley are a good make (i dont own one). I would head off to TK Maxx as you might be able to pick up a really good quality bag at a cheaper price.

By the way, Radley is a popular brand but it does have a very middle England woman her 40s association with it which is a bad thing on mumsnet hence some of the first "responses" you got. Happy Easter!Wink

I love radley too. they're well made, decent leather handbags.
Collectables used to sell them, and often had sales on, not sure if they still do.
Also Debenhams sells them. I have a small grab bag (black with a yellow embroidered design), a black clutch with a big yellow clasp, a pink purse, a black and turquoise umbrella and a small weekend suitcase in pale purple.

I would also ignore the less than helpful people on the thread... I don't really get why people post on a thread like this just to make sarcastic or mean comments?!

There are obviously women on here who are too cool for school and as such mock choices that do not mirror their own.
OP, if you like Radley then go and have a look in one if their high street shops, they have lots of choice. I think they have seasonal sales too so might be best to wait and get money off. Always good to save money! I hope you find something you love.

I have 2 Radley bags- just bought another- Bartley- but always remove the dog. I hate it.

There are very few Radley bags I love- maybe a couple each season.

You might like to look at Ochre Blue, Oushka, Modalu ( if you want a 'Pippa' bag), etc. Depends on your budget.

I go up to about £150.

I actually chose a radley purse over a mulberry coin purse. I chose it not jusr because of price but because the radley was more secure in teems of the zipper. Both were on sale

John Lewis stock Radley and lots of other decent brands, go and have a browse and see what you like.

I love radley as I find them really good quality. As others have said john Lewis have a good selection of radley and other bags. Peony and Moore have a good reputation on here although haven't bought anything from them. I have a couple of bags from monsoon that are good quality too.

My mum likes Tula bags, they are in a similar vein to Radley in my mind so you may like those. I always buy vintage bags myself but I'm quite into having something nobody else I know has and often they are a real bargain.

I also like that nobody can ever tell if my bag was £500 or £5 ( I choose good quality vintage) but that's probably quite ridiculous Blush

I have had Radley bags in the past and they wear well and have a good resale value on ebay. Radley have really upped their game in terms of design and not a dog to be seen!
Go to John Lewis and have a look. Modalau, Hobbs and Fossil are also stocked there and have some nice bags in for spring.
Report back what you buy.

Laura Bailey is the current face of Radley, and some of the bags she is photographed w in the ads look good. Obv ditch any doggy bits. I would look at Coccinelle, first. The store on Kings Road has a good range.

The dog on radley bags is far less prominent on many of the newer bags. Radley also do a range for mary portas

I have a cross body bag from Radley - it is really well made, much better than the Fossil bag I have which was a similar price (the zip broke on my Fossil one and the leather on the strap seems to have the colour coming off in places).

People are snotty about Radley, because i think in the past the designs have been seen as 'mumsy', but recently I think they've had some quite nice designs. Certainly they are no worse than a lot of other brands, which are deemed more 'acceptable' on MN.

Must admit that I think the dog is horrid (mine came with a little metal one on a piece of leather, which I took off asap and gave to dd, aged 5 to play with), but that is just a question of personal taste. If you like it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

OP if you like the Radley dog then it doesn't matter if other people think it's naff or not. I find lots of things naff that I'm sure some people on here love. Acne Pistols for one but lots of people bow at the alter of the Pistols! Grin

Gallifrey, if you like the dog tags, keep them. Screw what a couple of bitchy strangers think. I don't have Radleys but I do have an Ill tutti mia changing bag which has a dog tag. Those bags are seen as cool because some A list slebs have it. Hmm The dog tag doesn't define me but then neither do any of my other bags.

Radley bags are really well made out of good quality leather. Ones I have had lasted ages without looking scruffy or costing £800+ like certain other bags that tend to be drooled over.

Are you near a Boundary Mill? They sell them much cheaper.
If you like Radley you'll probably like Tula or Hidedesign too, similar quality & price.

The dogs are naff ?? Well I have several Scotties, the living breathing ones, & don't consider them naff Angry
