Something good for teenage (boy) spots?

Poor ds1, nearly 15, seems to be suffering with teenage bad skin worst of his friends. He's a pretty clean kid, showers daily and uses a Neutrogena/Nivea face wash, although I suspect could be a bit more enthusiastic with that. I'd like to give him something which might help minimise them but unlike most girls, he will not be up for a bit of mother-son bonding over testing out the various products on the market. Does anyone have any recommendations for anything which has worked well on your teenage ds?

Take him to the docs they will give him something to help. Oxy, clearasil etc are all to harsh and drying. Clean & Clear is OK but if he is spottier than his friends he might need some treatment from the docs, I had a clear liquid stuff that cleared my spots right up when I was a young teen and I was no where near acne ridden, mum just thought it was worth asking.

Really? I thought the doctor would just think I was wasting his/her time.

If it's bothering him i'd give it a go. I seriously had no more spots than any of my friends but mum dragged me down to the GP anyway and the stuff they gave me was amazing, a dab on any emerging bad skin each night really helped in a way that no amount of shop-bought treatments had. This was 20 years ago mind you, I have no idea if you'll get the same reception as my mum did...

Not all things are equal..some neutrogena and clean and clear is grim

Try him on Oil of Olay dry wash cloths ( sensitive) bit of warm water, use, rinse face with warm water pat dry
Then this neutrogena. It's a brilliant product. It's a BHA so it works inside the pores sorting out the oil ( really)
Give it a few weeks..there should be a world of difference

Take him to the Doctors who will give antibiotics. My son also uses Pro Active which seems to have helped.

Took my 14 yr DS to the Drs worried that I too was wasting his time but he was so sympathetic. Antibiotics twice a day and topical antibiotic lotion has improved them massively. I wish I had done it sooner as acne can/has caused scarring.

Defo docs I was depressed looking bak at it now over my skin as a teenager and it wasn't even all that bad but all the scrubs and lotions wont do any good compared to topical lotion from doc. I thought docs wouldn't do anythin too and so did my mum I think but they did!! My bloody mother never got my prescription wen I needed it tho but thats another thread!! Really helped my confidence but I found the topical solution if they stil do that far too harsh and drying. Lotion was great!;-) I used to not want to go out wen skin was bad and its a shame to put up with it if you don't need to I think

Dr gave DS1 some topical cream, it does work, but if not careful and you get it on any clothes - it will bleach them.

I have taken him for a couple of extraction facials and it really made his skin look loads better.

He does let me sometimes put some facial scrub on him, but he has to be in the right mood Grin which is usually never

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm going to try a couple of the products mentioned and if no improvement, we'll take a trip to the doctors. Thanks again.

I'd probably try anti biotics well after a really simple skin care routine ( i really mean routine) though after the BHA he could maybe use some benzoyl peroxide to kill the bacteria and directly on a new breakout. There is bags of info on how great it is

Antibiotics & a topical cream worked miracles for my son at that age.

Lush dark angel really helped ds's skin.

Oh god take the poor kid to the docs if the over the counter stuff doesn't work out - my mother always refused to take me and it was horrid.

If it does continue, I genuinely would suggest roaccutane. I went on it just as I started uni (slightly too late imho as you can't drink on it!) and it cleared my skin up not just while I was using it but also improved it for good. I'm now 24 and only have to commit to a decent cleanse/tone/moisturise regime.
