Foundation recommendations for oily, spot-prone skin please

Going shopping tomorrow so need some suggestions tonight please :)

Skin pretty awful - oily (although it is beginning to dry out quite dramatically due to some meds I've been prescribed for PCOS), large pores, acne scarring. I sound lovely don't I

So, need excellent coverage, oil-free, long lasting, non-comedogenic suggestions.

Currently using Lily Lolo mineral foundation, I do like it but its making me look so old :(. Would like to try liquid foundation again, but no idea what to try. I always used to use no7 stay perfect or something like that.

Mid-range price wise, less than £25-30 really.

Estee Lauder Double Wear is nice, if applied in the right way - a tiny amount with your fingers, on primed skin. It really does last the best.

Revlon Colorstay is pretty good too, applied the same way.

Clarins Everlasting, Stila Stay all Day. All on top of MAC spf 50 prep and prime, or Urban Decay De-slick spray.

High End, I like Givenchy Eclat Mattisime and Guerlain ( can't remember the exact name, it's the long lasting one ).

Budget, Rimmel 25 hour or Bourjois 123 perfection are both long lasting and give good coverage.

One last really good one for oily skin, though not so easy to get hold of is Shiseido liquid sun protection foundation.

I've tried Estee Lauder Doublewear, Clarins Extralasting, Revlon Colourstay, and am currently using No 7 Beautiful Matte. Rate the No7 stuff as better than the Clarins. Think it comes down to Doublewear and the No7 ones for me! And you should be able to get testers of both - Estee Lauder give you little bottles which will last for about a week, as will No7 ... always a good idea to try before you part with your pennies!

The new Clinique pore refining solutions foundation is really good. I found it less 'cakey' looking than Estee Lauder doublewear.

I have tried double wear,Mac studio fix, and Revlon Colorstay but my favourite one is Maybelline dream mousse foundation.

I have PCOS and have had some skin issues. Metformin helped a bit. Eating a low carb diet has been much more helpful and my skin is much improved as a consequence.

I have just started using Estee Lauder doublewear after seeing its many recommendations on here. I have combination skin and it stays on all day. I really do have to remove it. Use it sparingly, tiny little dots on your face,and blend, repeat as necessary. I did'nt do that the first time and thought they had colour matched me wrongly.

Been using it everyday now for about two weeks and very pleased. It does not need powdering either.

I have the same problem however about 2 years ago I swapped to bare minerals make up and not only does it cover up any scars and spots but also my skin has dramatically improved since using it.

Another vote for Estée Lauder double wear. It's oil free too so shouldn't aggravate your acne.

Definately worth a try.

Go and talk to the este lauder ladies and get them to apply some and then walk about.

Also go the mac, all the mac counter staff are fully qualfied make artists.

Mac, clinic prescriptions and some others are all part of the este lauder brand.

you also want a good foundation brush, Mac do some nice ones. or real techinques buffing brush

There is a good video on You tube about foundation choices.

Wow, so many DW recommendations! Doesn't it look really 'made up' though? I need very good coverage but don't want to look OTT.

Those who use it - do you still need to use concealer? If so, which do you use?

NO it does not look "made up" if you apply it properly or lightly rather.

Honest it gives a medium coverage but you need so little of it.

I do use a concealer as well, as a have very dark under eyes and very pael skin (I look like the living dead) I use the same concealer.

Would you be very offended if i linked to a video of how to do foundation?

I used to use about 3 times the amount I needed and looked very made up. Changed the way I apply it and the amount I apply and it looks like I have NOTHING on! Just perfect skin, stangers litterally stop me and ask why I have such good skin. I have to tell them its foundation and not the 15 glasses of water I drink a day!

I didn't used to like DW very much, it's all in the application. I use half of what I do with other foundations and use my fingers to apply and it looks natural. If you use too much, that's what gives the mask-look. I do still use a bit of concealer and powder.

There is also double wear light, but i I prefer the full fat version.

With MAC mineralise skinfinish natural as a powder, this gives a little extra coverage, but in a really natural way. It's a really great powder.

Ooh, pixiwoo are great. She's using the MAC mineralise skin finish I suggested. I apply the foundation with fingers then go over it with a buffing brush after, it gives a really natural finish.

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra or Illamasqua Skin Base are my top recommendations for high cover foundations. MAC Pro Longwear Foundation is great too.

The new Lancome Visionaire foundation which came out a couple of weeks ago is gorgeous too. It looks like your skin but better, contains Visionaire serum which will also help with enlarged pores, scarring and dark spots over time. It's not heavy coverage but comes with a concealer built into the lid so you can add more coverage where you need it.

A lot of people with acne make the mistake of feeling they need a full coverage foundation all over but that will look heavy and mask like. You want the most natural coverage you can get away with over the whole face and then concealer, applied with a brush just where you need it.

Agree with all these suggestions btw, and can also add bourjois mineral makeup which you can only get on eBay (about £3, brilliant) or the new Chanel vitallummiere (sp?!) long lasting makeup.

Hmmm I find ELDW Light was a best in class foundation ... about 10 yrs ago. In 2013, it's old tech and adds a good five years to my face. Very unflattering. Difficult to apply lightly, looks made up and hard-faced. Dries the dry areas and doesn't give good enough oil control on the oily areas. Emphasises large pores. Hard to get a good colour match too.

I find the Maybelline 25hr and the Revlon Colourstay outperform it, and look far more natural and softer on the face.

Best foundation I've tried this year is the Bobbi Brown Natural Finish oil free. Very natural look, can be applied ultra lightly or built up. Definitely reduces appearance of pores and fine lines. It's the least drying and best oil control of the long wear foundations that I've tried. I apply a smashbox powder over it in the morning, Kryolan setting spray and that's it until 4pm. Tiny blot with a tissue then, a dusting of Mac Blot, and it's good until 11pm. No other foundation can do that and still look natural, soft and not made up.

Popped into the city today, ended up in Boots where I managed to snaffle a sample of Smashbox Photo Finish primer (quite a good sized tube :) ) and then got a sample of Double Wear. Warning to anyone who is thinking of asking for a sample - the assistant removed the make up from half of one cheek to colour match! I thought she'd try it on my neck or somewhere but no, she did try to 'patch me up' afterwards but I looked ridiculous as the shade she decided was the right colour for me was way lighter than what I've been wearing (she was right, my current foundation is too dark so I had a very large, very pale patch slap bang in the middle of my left cheek . This is why I've never dared to have an in store make over etc as I'm so self conscious of my skin and anyone seeing it - I felt so uncomfortable sitting there whilst she peered at my skin at such close range :(

Anyway, have a 10 day sample of DW to try and I bought a foundation brush too, go me!

Looked too ridiculous to go and ask anywhere else for samples - had planned to try Bobbi Brown and MAC but they will have to wait for another day.
